Traveling teaches people

A family with some poorly behaved children had to cancel their vacation. That was a shame because every family would benefit from traveling to a different country. If that family had gone to Kenya the children would have been able to learn about the wild animals. They would have been able to meet a different culture. They would have been able to experience a different climate. Perhaps they would see the poor people and become more grateful for all the things they have got. I have learned very much whilst on my travels. Have you learned anything from the traveling that you have done? Should the family have canceled their vacation?

I rarely have vacation with my family... But i think it's nice to have entire family become more closer by having long time together and learn something new in that place...

traveling widens a person's horizon. it also tempers the spirit and provides challenges, as well as opportunities. to sum it up, traveling teaches the traveler. aside from feasting on new places and beautiful sceneries, one can also learn from them. the same is true, when you interact with the people of a new place you visited. this space won't be enough to describe what one gets from traveling... some even say that traveling is therapeutic... even if one only does it in his or her country, like me... i travel my country philippines as often as i have time...

depends on the severity of the misbehaviour of the children. because i also believe that children learn from trips. they learn their culture, they can see the climate. my children thought that our country is dirty and other countries are clean. i always tell them that they only see it as clean because we go to tourist spots

i think cancelling a vacation is quite a serious punishment for misbehaviour because it affects the entire family, not just the children. I guess it also depends on what the children did to deserve it. If they were just naughty one night, or throwing tantrums, or fighting with each other due to natural sibling rivalry, then it's something that happens, and taking away a vacation can't be done everytime something like that occurs. But if this is the punishment that has been decided upon, then they'd just have to wait for another opportunity to go, and another time to learn all those things in the future. it's not as if they'd never get to go everafter, just that the opportunity has been delayed.

Oh I had such an evil thought. If they had gone to Kenya, maybe the children would have been eaten by the lions. Bad Dawn... I think it depends on the behavior and why the vacation was canceled. If the parents had been having problems with the children for a while and the vacation was set up on the condition that the children behave a certain way, and then the children violated the agreement, the parents would probably have to follow through and cancel the vacation. Or better yet, get a sitter and go without them. Sure, I've learned a lot from my travels. I hope to go back east this summer with the children, hopefully hit DC, among other places. Many things to learn there...

Hi, yes they have made a mistake, one should travel around to gain knowledge and know the different types of people. when I had been to Nepal I was able to know their tradition and custom. I love to travel around the world.

Hi there maximax8! The family should not have canceled their vacation. They should have pushed through with their vacation. A lot of things could have happened while they were on tour and these things might have helped teach the children some lessons. I have always loved traveling. I learn a lot of things and I really appreciate the fact that I get a lot of opportunity to travel. In fact, my travels have helped me enhance my teaching strategies. I get to give examples on what I teach based on my actual observations and experiences.

I agree with you that traveling does give you a lot of benefits, among other things is knowledge and learning. We surely learn as we travel. Even by just observing and seeing things we can surely benefit. In our country there are a lot of what we call ""Lakbay Aral"... meaning travel and learn... Usually this are sponsored trips by some organization or government agency where people travel to different places to learn about things and perhaps apply what they have learned to their community when they get back. Well, I am not in the position t say that the children who canceled there vacation was right or wrong. Perhaps there were other reasons for such cancel. But it would surely have benefited them if they did.

I do not think that they should have cancelled their trip because of poorly behaving kids. I agree with you, there is much to be learned from travelling and it can be a really rewarding and life changing experience. Travelling overseas for six months certainly changed my life in 1997/98. I learned to be more appreciative of the things that I had in my life and to be more open minded to other opinions and habits. Travelling grows you as a person and I feel that everyone should make the effort to experience it if they can.

Children are always children we can not expect them to behave like matured adults all the time. For them to enjoy their childhood let them behave as they wish sometimes for them to explore and learn things by themselves as experience is a good teacher remember. It is hard to Impose a fast and hard rule for children at a very young age without any consideration because they might grow up dumb and coward with personalities going backward. Cancelling a travel just because the children misbehaved sometimes is not I think a valid right reason from a rational person. The joy and fun being with your own children in a vacation pays more than anything.
