How proverbs were created; which ones do you like and why?

In Dutch we have a proverb that goes like this:
That throbs like a bus (that's exactly right)
Actually this is a proverb that has been formed by taking two different proverbs and mixing them. I know one of these was:
That throvs like an infectious finger (means basicly the same).
I can't remember how the bus got in there, but there was another proverb with a bus and along the years it got mixed up into this weird new proverb.
Have you got a similar story from your country you would like to share?
Or otherwise a nice proverb from your country and it's meaning?
