hi jugsjugs yes I agree it is so silly to spend all your money
on booze then not be able to pay your bills, thats no excuse for
sure. reminds me of the fable about the grasshopper and the ant. the ant was busy storing up food f or the cold winter months while the grasshopper did nothing but play all day. so when the cold weather came the grasshopper was so hungry and was out of food, so he came around to ask the ant for food, and the ant replied go get your own, I have nothing to give to a lazy loafer who played instead of storing up your own food. the lesson of course is to pay your bills first before playing or getting drunk as the case may be. me too I would always pay my bills first before going out to play.

We can develop other habits that empoverish us as well as drinking. The older I get, the more I feel that I would rather buy something tangible that I will have instead of the intangible. I would rather buy good food to cook at home than eat junk at the fast food place. Even a nice dinner seems to taste better at home, done just the way I like it. I would rather pay for a video of a movie one time than go to the movies to see it. I think I am an awful tightwad. Beyond that, I would rather read the magazines and newspapers for free at the library than have them clutter up my house. All those things leave more money for bills.

Hi,i agree as there are alot of people that struggle in life trying to pay their bills and never go out,yet the people that are always out drinking in pubs and clubs are on benifits and they are the ones that are in the pubs.I do understand that there are some people out there that are dependant on drink, but there are others that are not.I always pay my bills before i do anything else.

Hi jj,
You haven't said wether they are boy or girl or both of one or other, also the colour of them would be useful too that helps with a name..but the way I choose names is by their character eg one of my dogs when they were only a puppy used to scamper everywhere so in the end I called him Scampi, then another one when she was a pup was into everything so I called her Pickles and boy does she lives up to her name! That is another way of choosing a name for your pups, other than that I hope you get some help with a name for the lovely fur babies..LoLo

I never go to the bars so I wouldn't know but it's that way with my sister in law. She says she's always broke and yet she smokes like a chimney, travels all over the country to take in a dance and she'd walk on hot coals I'm sure to find a Bingo hall.
I consider myself to be a good person but I really don't feel sorry for people like that.

I do not feel sorry for people like that either as they know that they have bills the same as i do.I hate it when you see people struggling to keep up with their bills yet there are other people on benefit that are taking the mickey out of the system as well as those that do fraud.

I do like a drink as long as the bills have been paid and we have food as well as a few pounds in the bank then i do not mind going out. However there are alot of people out there that think that the world owes them a favor so they think they do not have to worry about paying their bills.

hi jugsjugs,
I got friends who always drink almost everyday especially near weekends. They would rather have a good time first before thinking about other commitments.Sometimes they asked me to borrow money to settle their debt but since i knew about their drinking habit ,i stop lending any.Would they learn from the mistakes? I don't think so.

I have a friend that is always out in pubs as well as blowing their money on alot of other things knowing that they can not afford the bills that they already have to pay.I think people like this should be ashamed as they are also the people that say they can not afford to buy food as well.I think that in the end they may end up getting soo far behind on their bills that they will not be able to afford any basic things that they need as well as have the debt collectors on their door step.

It's the same with me. But sometimes people just don't have enough money at all and they spend most of them for drinking or eating more. After that, as you said, they are not happy because don't have enough to pay bills. And the have problems.
But don't think if they pay the bills they will not start to talk about not having enough money for drinking and eating :)
In my opinion, when you don't have enough money - everything's not good enough. Nobody likes spending 70% or more of his income for bills, isn't it

I have a mortgage that i have to pay and nearly all of our money is used to pay that bill as well as all of the other bills that we have as well.I would rather go without a night out and keep up with my bills then not pay the bills that i have got.I think that if there who can blow their money on a load of things that they can do without then they should at least pay their bills. If they have blow their money then it is their own fault noone elses.

I have always paid all of my bills first as that way there is nothing for me to worry about as well as that way i do not dread the letters that i get through the post.I think that these people that do not pay their bills, who blow their money as soon as they get it think that they will always get away with not paying for their bills.I can not see how some people can sleep at night.

I guess its their way of escaping reality. They would drink to their hearts content and think that even for a few hours of drinking they would get to enjoy themselves and forget about all the worries. The thing with this is that when they get home and the drunkenness is gone they are again back to reality. So they would find ways to go back their way of escaping which in their case is drinking. People have different ways to escape, some drink, some play online games, some pick up a hobby. All of them have in common the fact that its only temporary. One cannot really escape reality.
However, it's also good to take a break from reality once in a while just to recharge ones outlook. But if escaping is becoming habitual and expensive then I suggest that they find other more practical ways to "escape". Though for others its just a way of life and a hard habit to break.

I actually know of some people who would fit your last description. They still have a huge amount of debt to the bank because they loaned and put their land as collateral. They're scraping off everything just to pay something monthly else they'd lose their land. The youngest child has stopped going to college. I know that they're also fond of borrowing money from friends. However, they still chose to have the plasma tv, mini laptop, and ipod.

There are alot of people out there trying to make ends meet with their money only to find that is all their life consists of as well as not making all the payments on their bills. Then all they see is the other people out blowing all of their money and never worry about the bills.I think that there are also alot of people out there that seem not to have a drinking problem and just think that they can live off other peoples money as well as borrow more money.

Yes that is a very good point and I think it is a case of misplaced priorities .These people think these people think it is more important to drink their troubles away rather than pay their bills .Granted though these people may be so stressed that to them drinking is the only way to get out of their miserable lives

I think that they should be made to pay all their bills first either through their wages or through their benefits as this is the only way they will learn to do things right. If they have a drink problem then just like my brother they should go and get help like detox. In my eyes i see it like if i have to pay my bills then they should have to pay theirs.

There are probably numerous reasons...not all good, or not all bad...I guess I chose to let others live their life, and focus on myself and how I can be a better person, rather than spend my time observing the lives of others. Life is so much easier that way.

It makes me angry to think that there are people out there that are struggling to survive on a small amount of money as well as try to support their family and then you see other people that are claiming off the state and blowing their money and not worrying about their bills that they have made.

I understand what you are saying but, you know what? That's never going to change. So rather than be angry all my life at what other people do, I find myself much more at peace if I let it go, and not focus on those people. In the end, they will get their just do.

Hiya jugs,
Afraid there are not any of those kind of Pubs here. Sometimes I wish there was but there are´nt and they are just Bars after all said and done and most of the People I never get to know them as they keep very much to themselves.

We have lots of pubs near where i live and there are always the same old faces in there and they always sit up the bar doing nothing but moaning about not having any money to pay all of their bills and then in the next sentance they are on about they are going to buy all these different things.I have to stay in as well as not get the things that i want as i ensure that i pay all of my bills first yet they do not rarely pay any of their bills as they have blown all of their money.

Hiya jugs,
Glad to see that you have a lot of Pubs around you that are still working and functioning that is the most important thing don´t you think? Here because of the crisis and the Anti Smoking laws and the Parking Laws too are forcing many Bars out of Business altogether.
Here´s to the all those Pubs keeping on going as I love English Pubs and they deserve to stay in business and so do the Bars here too cheers to that one also.
Take care Jugs.

Hi Jugjugs,
I know so many people in this kind of situation. aside from drinking, they are also into substance use and abused, smoking and gambling. they're just so irresponsible to prioritize things. instead spend their little money for their vices. grrrrrr!

I agree I'd rather pay bills first and then if there is any money left go drinking or whatever. A friend of mine always says she doesn't have any money yet she always goes to bingo or gambling at casinos. She refinanced her house a few times and paid off her credit cards, but she keeps running them back up so she's no further ahead. Her son says he doesn't have any money but he goes drinking all the time, and then gets money from her. His bank account is always overdrawn and then she bails him out. They repossessed his car, and there was nothing she could do about that. I guess he learned bad economy lessons from his mother. Her husband gets upset with her but he doesn't stop her so it's his fault also. She doesn't get a lot of money, but she gets a lot more than me. I would think I was rich if I got half of what she does.

There are like you say alot of people that are alot better off and they seem to be the worst ones for not paying their bills as well as blowing all their money.I also think that a lot of people that claim money from the state are alot better off as they are also the ones that are in bad credit as well as always blowing money.

My husband is also paid monthly and all of our bills are paid through our banks monthly as that way we do not have anything to worry about.I hope that these people end up being made to pay for their bills as well as they have to go without alot of things as welkl as get losts of charges.I can sleep at night knowing that i do not owe anyone anything where as i can not see how the other people can sleep.

It seems the more money you have, the more you need to keep up your current lifestyle. I think bills should come before anything else but a lot of people don't seem to. I only get paid once a month. I make a list of what bills will be coming in and how much they will be so I can keep enough money aside to pay them.

Once they are addicted to drinking nothing becomes more important than this addiction of theirs. Their mind gets affected and so does their conscience. People who love them should work on these issues and get them out of it to the best of their ability. Many a time peer pressure gets them into this habit and once in they cannot get out of it. There are NGOs that can help these people and they should go there with help from their loved ones. I have known wonderful people with kind and generous nature becoming victim of this menace.

There is help out there for people that have this kind of problem, there are also other people out there that do not have an addiction and choose to spend all their money on drink and never pay their bills.I have to pay my bills so why do some people think that they do not have to worry about their bills.

There are the people that need a drink where as there are others that do not.I think that these people also like to spend money on alot of other things that they do not need as well and yet they do not see that the bills have to be paid first.I ensure that i do not lend people money anymore as well as never pay for things for them and then have to wait for my money.

Hi, Jugs: I remember my mother ranting about people who drink and party and buy everything they want to enjoy the moment, but, as you say, never have enough to pay their basic bills. Mother used to say "They buy what they want and beg for what they need." She was most upset when children were neglected because of the bad choices the parents made. Funny how things you heard as a child stick with you as an adult.

I agree with your mother that there are people out there that do not care about their children as well as they put themselves first.I think alot of these people that are the people that depend on the state to pay for them to live and they are the people that are always borrowing off other people as well as saying they do not have enough money to pay their bills.

I think that these people should pay their bills first and then if they have any money left then they should go out as all you hear from these people is that they have lots of bills and they do not have any money, thats all they keep saying obviously they put drink first.

Well as I said they will not know that unless they would look and accept their responsibilities first. if they are really enjoying that habit they would not realize how important it is to pay their bills first before enjoying their money. They need to re orient their sense of responisbility.

Hi jugsjugs,
I think they are probably just wallowing self-pity lol. Don't most of us do it from time to time?
It is just that they chose a more expensive way. Or maybe they just need to go to the pubs because they are avoiding someone at home. I don't know and it is none of my business really.
I guess it is ultimately up to them when they will sober up and decide that perhaps it is better to tackle the problem head on and put their finances in order first.

Alot of these people have children and the children are having to go without alot of things as well as the children that i have known in the past were made homeless as the parents did not pay the rent for the place that they were living in.I think that if i have to pay for all my bills then they should at least try to pay theirs.

I know exactly what you mean money is so precious and should be used wisely. Some of our old friends called my husband and I were boring ,we found out we were expecting our son. Then we decided to cut back and save for the baby.So going out stopped although we did have the occasional night out sometimes. We only took a few pound enough for a couple of shandies or soft drinks. We were perfectly happy being like that, but these friends really upset me,by calling us boring and stick in the muds.So we broke up with them. They had four children between them to support and were always out and about ,clubbing and having a good time.Well that was up to them ,how they afforded to have a social life like that I will never know. Some people just do not have the right priorities. As long as they don't expect their sensible friends to bail them out.

I know what you mean as i sometimes think how can they afford to go out all of the time as alot of these people claim off the state and do not work and they are supposed to have alot less money than people that do work. They also tend to borrow money off people when they run out of money and then they can not afford a bill, all for the sake of going out.I would rather stay at home and know that all our bills are paid then have to worry about the bills.

well, people who get drunk and who don't pay their bills are peoples who have problems in there home.A bad relationship perhaps.so I think they should look after that problems in there home and that needs to be rectified first after that only people will come to their senses and behave as a good citizen, pay their bills and drink what they can afford.

I think that you are right there as there are alot of people out there that struggle to pay their bills as well as worry about all the things that they can not afford to pay for as well as buy.The people that drink all their money do never seem to care about anything other than themselves and are forever saying that they can not afford to go out.
