Oliver learned the trick!

You know I talk about how Rygel has a "trick." He will jump into our arms. Well, Oliver has tried once or twice, but always chickened out and not given it a full jump, because he just didn't for whatever reason. Well, today he did it! He jumped into the roommate's arms!!! He learned the TRICK! We knew he could do it, because we've seen him jump that high, but his problem was that he didn't trust us to catch him. Maybe now he'll do it some more! We are so proud of him! We praised him and pet him and he was just eating it up! He was so happy! So, anything new happy at your house today?

yea, this bunch understands "no" for the most part. unless it involves food.. but compared to my first bunch of 6,they're angels. the first 6 were "up" cats, scratchers, fighters and groundscore eating fellows(a.k.a why is ribbon hanging out your butt?).

aaaww! how sweet. yes, just like everyone agrees in my recent discussion. cats can do just about anything they really want to. my dog coco usually can jump up on most things thats not to high, but sometimes she whines for us to pick her up on the chair or bed if she feels lazy.

I call the OTHER roommate's dumb dog a dog who thinks she's a mountain goat - I'm ALWAYS finding her where she doesn't belong! She even tries to get on window sills and she's too big to fit!

Good for Oliver. He is obviously learning trust. Nothing new here, but my fur critters think my presence is the best of anything. They follow me around and haunt me, telling me that I am the Queen of their world.

Oh really? I thought only my cats did that! so many people talk about how their cats ignore them - that cats aren't attached to people, well you and I know better, huh?

Aww--good for for Oliver that he finally did that trick. I used to have a cat named Tommy who was the ONLY one to jump into my arms...and no easy feat since he was a BIG cat, and yes a little, uh, chunky...it was like catching a dog when he leapt into my arms rather than a cat--but he thoroughly trusted me that I would catch him

that'd be like catching Booboo! No, Boo hasn't learned the trick - but Oliver has seen his Uncle Rygel do it and has obviously wanted to do it, but never gave it all before - he's a sweet thing

I had a cat that did that. It was really cool... Got an Allan Sherman boxed set as a gift today. Then when I started my car, the radio was playing "You're Getting to be a Habit With Me". Well Allan Sherman did a version of that song called "Youre Getting to be a Rabbit With Me" and for a second, I thought R had slipped one of the cd's into my player as a surprise.

I have a rescue puppy at home...a cutie of a terrier whom I call Roxxy. She just loves Banjo, my cat. Banj woke up today to be almost immediately greeted with lots of kisses by Roxxy. Banj jumped up on a table to escape but only managed to drag the table cloth and everything on it, onto the floor. Poor Banjo, he was still half asleep and looking very mortified. His dignity was crushed. Dear Roxxy immediately understood and sat apart from Banjo and just stared adoringly. It was very cute.

That was the awful part...there was heaps of stuff on the table and he had been exploring up there earlier. He just could not pull himself up, he even had 2 goes at it. Like I said, he was still half asleep.

Poor Banjo - this is why we don't leave any thing like a table cloth for them to catch on... or if we do, we load the table up so on single cat could pull it off

Hey Elic! How is my favorite "kitty lover"? And a big Congrats to Oliver! You go Oliver! I knew you could do it too! Yay Oliver! That is some trick girlfriend! My cats jump into my lap all the time when I'm sitting in my computer chair, but I don't count that as a trick, just an annoyance sometimes! Yesterday, Star stepped on some keys that deleted all of my Mylot emails! I was not a happy camper and he had a "time out" even though he didn't know it! He was just being whiny and pacing, which is more his brother, Luna's style! So, he went to his bed, which is behind the computer for awhile! I still lost my emails! Well, give Oliver a hug for me and I hope he will continue to jump again and has fully realized he can "trust"! That is quite a feat for a kitty, as we "cat people" know! Hugs, Opal

Thanks- yeah, we're proud of Oliver right now. Speaking of Stars, our Star, who is one of our ferals, let me pet her last night!!! She had started to run than didn't! WOW!!! and I needed her to move so I finally had to pick her up and move her. I'm really worried about her - she's now 9 years old and has gotten very thin, I'm afraid she's sick and there's not much we can do for her...

I know, but you have to understand that when you take on a feral cat, you are doing it knowing that you are providing them the best life you can but that you won't be able to treat them if they get sick. I've had Mandy, and Mitten also were feral, but Star and the 3 kittens are the most feral of the lot and the least treatable. We will let her go when the time comes as easily as she allows us to, like I had to let Mitten and Mandy go.

That's just the point Elic! Once I took a cat in, feral or not I could never let it go! I wan't cut out for that! My good friend took a feral in and really tried to "house break" it, but she just was too scared and remained aloof until he just opened the door and she ran out! I could never deal with something like that! Once I have touched the cat, it is mine! Just like they mark us, I would mark them! I know it's crazy, but I am too much of a cat lover to let one go once I had it!

Well done Oliver! It goes to show that cats ca be trained too! I wish I could train my little boy cat called Hewy to jump on my lap! The problem with Hewy is that he is so young and so easily distratcted; he cannof focus on one thing for too long! It is not easy to predict what these animals will it do next

Congratulations on getting him to finally perform the trick! Mine would never do anything like that. They probably didn't trst me to catch them. Since he sees the other cat doing it and you praised him he'll probably do it some more. He might even do it when your not expecting it. Learning a new trick is a nice way to start out a new year!

I hope he waits until we expect him, because I doubt he'd be like Rygel and push off again. Rygel learned it by jumping at the fridges and so he also learned he wasn't going to be caught - and pushes off again

If he doesn't wait until you expect it, if he falls and doesn't get caught he may never do it again. Of course cats don't usually get hurt when they fall so he may do it again.

That sure shows a whole lot of trust. Cats can be funny animals. But, perhaps now both your cats will be happier. Our cats don't do tricks like that, but still its neat. Though if I stand a cirtin distance from Precious and he wants to be held, He'll walk into my arms. Or, rather he'll climb on my shoulder. and I'll wrap my arms around him and hold him almost like a mother holds a child on their hip.

Timus will jump from a counter or table, sometimes, I got him to do it last night - I stood off about 3 feet and he did it - he so loves to be held. He was one of the first cats we got that got out of the carrier and into someone's arms - the roomie as it happened to be. Yeah, I agree, tho, it took trust for Oliver to do it, Rygel just jumps and sometimes we're not expecting it so he just drops back down - no nails - he's a good boy!

My five months baby has started to grab things lying around him with his little fingers. This is my new happy at home. However the sad part is that he is puting anything he grabs into his mouth. I really doubt whether his baby teeth are coming out.

that's what babies do, everything goes in the mouth - but, believe it or not, if they get exposed to dirt as a child, they are healthier as adults

We have a cat named Mengyeow, we don't know how to call him and decided to call him by the sound that he makes. My son took him home, out of pity, one rainy night when he saw him shivering in the rain. He was just a kitten then, but now he's a full-grown cat. He's most loved by the family members, he sleeps with my daughters in the bedroom. He can do tricks also, he can roll on the floor when asked to, he can jump and play with our pet dogs. He loves to sit on anybody's lap and sleeps in there.

I knew someone's cat who rolled over, I've never put that much time into teaching tricks, Rygel learned his on his own and Oliver did it today. He's a silly boy, those giant furry feet making stars all over the place he was so happy!

at 290 lbs, it'll take more than a 12 lb cat to knock her over - especially when she's inviting him up! We made a great deal out of him tho - and hopefully he'll do it again and soon!
