Suppose your bestfriend's mother is diagnosed w/cancer and your friends has fallen apart. What can you say to help her? Or maybe your buddy just got a phone call from his dad that the family business went bankrupt. How can you help him work through it?
When someone goes through a time of sorrow or hurt, in some ways we want to help; often we don't know what to say and we don't want to make it worse.
When someone you know is hurting deeply, are you available for them? How do you usually respond? Can you share your answers here...

All I can do is tell my friend that I'm here if they need me. If they need to talk I want them to feel free to write me.I check in to see how they are doing. That's all I can do.

Support him or her..my best friend was diagnosed with cancer..she didn`t want to take chemoteraphy as it was so expensive, so she decided to use herbal medicine. Thanks God, now she has recovered and healthy..she is married with 5-year old daughter..A best friend is a friend who is available for help and support, no matter how bad the situation is

Well, I'm always available to my friends who are in need but still, it depends with the situation. If he/she is suffering from "FINANCIAL PROBLEMS/CONCERNS" I would intentionally be absent. xD
Anyways, you could give that friend who suffers advices, encouraging words and some words of wisdom.
You could tell/him her that it is not the end of the world.
