How the leaderboard ranking work ?

I wonder how the leaderboard ranking work in interest category of Mylot. Is it all about starting discussions in that particular interest, or responses also count? Does uploading pictures in a particular interest count regarding ranking?
Please explain it to me Mylot members.
Do you care at all about your ranking of leaderboard?

Hello there! Well, the leaderboard shows the ten most active users on a particular interest group. You can see the ranking after the username on each post. On yours, it appears as 58/32863 in this interest. Once a user reaches a rank of 10 or up to 1, his/her name will be placed on the leaderboard. Have a nice day!

Thanks for your reply. I was just wondering that if responding a discussion and/or uploading a photo will count as activity and ranking will go up or not.
