This discussion is about useful tips on reading and understanding the bible, the discussion is mainly based on the work of Ahmed Deedat, Ahmed Hussein Deedat (July 1, 1918 – August 8, 2005) was a Muslim apologist, writer, charismatic public speaker and Islamic missionary of Indian-South African descent, He was best known for his numerous inter-religious public debates with evangelical Christians, as well as pioneering video lectures most of which centered around Islam, Christianity and the Bible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmed_Deedat
In one of his books, the book is titled ( Is the Bible the Word of God ? ) He tried to answer the question about the Bible being the word of God or not, on trying to answer this question He Mentioned that:
On reading the Bible there is there are three grades of evidence and He said:
We have no hesitation in acknowledging that in the Bible, there are three different kinds of witnessing recognizable without any need of specialized training. These are:
1 - You will be able to recognize in the Bible what may be described as "The Word of God."
2 - You will also be able to discern what can be described as the "Words of a Prophet of God."
3 - And you will most readily observe that the bulk of the Bible is the records of eye witnesses or ear witnesses, or people writing from hearsay. As such they are the "Words of a Historian."
Different types of evidences in the Bible. The following quotations will make the position crystal clear:
The First Type: "The Word of God."
( a ) I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and I will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. [ Deuteronomy 18:18 ]
( b ) I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. [ Isaiah 43:11 ]
Note the first person pronoun singular (highlighted) in the above references, and without any difficulty you will agree that the statements seem to have the sound of being God's word.
The Second Type: "Words of a Prophet of God."
( a ) And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [ Matthew 27:46 ]
( b ) And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: [ Mark 12:29 ]
( c ) And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. [ Mark 10:18 ]
Even a child will be able to affirm that: Jesus "cried," Jesus "answered," and Jesus "said," are the words of the one to whom they are attributed, i.e. the words of a Prophet of God.
The Third Type: "Words of a Historian."
( a ) And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he(Jesus) came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet [ Mark 11:13 ]
The bulk of the Bible is a witnessing of this Third kind. These are the words of a third person. Note the highlighted pronouns. They are not the Words of God or of His prophet, but the words of historian.
For the Muslim it is quite easy to distinguish the above types of evidence, because he also has them in his own faith. But of the followers of the different religions, he is the most fortunate in this that his various records are contained in separate Books!
1 - The word of God is found in a Book called The Holy Quran
2 - The words of a of a Prophet of God ( Muhammad PBUH ) are recorded in the Books of Tradition called The Hadith.
3 - The Words of a Historian in Islam abounds in different volume of Islamic history, written by some of high integrity and learning, and others of lesser trustworthiness, but the Muslim advisedly keeps his Books in separate volumes!
The Muslim keeps the above three types of evidence jealously apart, in their proper gradations of authority. He never equates them. On the other hand, the "Holy Bible" contains a motley type of literature, which composes the embarrassing kind, the sordid, and the obscene - all under the same cover - A Christian is forced to concede equal spiritual import and authority to all, and is thus unfortunate in this regard.
How long do Christians out there agree with this ?
All the works of Ahmed Deedat:

Hi Gordano.
Well Jesus said, (Mt. 24:35, Mrk 13:31, Luke 21:33) heaven and earth (including any scholars you or I can come up with) will pass away, but His words will never pass away. So, I will stick by whatever Christ says, Who has graciously spoken by His Holy Spirit in every word of the Holy Bible.
Mark 10:18 proves the deity of Christ for He calls Himself the Good Shepherd in John 10:11 and 14!
God most certainly is one being, just like you are one being. There only one God.
But, now, consider yourself. You are one being. But you subsist as body, soul and spirit.
God is one being. He subsists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Harley009,
I agree with you.In fact,A God never takes birth from woman's womb and he never requires food and water to live and then die on the cross.....One day Jesus himself will refuse to be a God or son of a God and he will support and implement the last divine book, the holy Quran......

Hi awapak.
I think you might have missed something. Christ was God veiled in flesh. God is eternal and does not need a mommy of course.
When we see Christ, we often see the human side of His redemptive act for us. When we read the Gospels of the life of Christ we are see the way of our salvation, not God, being made.
Christ will refuse to be God? Why did He accept worship? No other God-fearing person did in the NT, and there is a passage in Revelation where an angel forbade the Apostle John to worship him (the angel), saying "Worhip God."
Hang on folks. I'm nearing 500 qualified posts. Harley had a lot of questions which is fine, but it is better to organize them and I want to copy and paste some Scripture.
Just keep in mind, when we read about Christ in the NT, of Whom there are numerous passages that clearly show His deity, we often see the way, path, of our salvation being made. God does not have to be made, but the works had to be made before our eyes. Will give you more hopefully within 24 hours.

I would not quite like to read or listen to Muslims like Ahmed Deedat or Dr.Zakir Naik. To their reading of other religions is too simplistic. There are much better Muslim scholars who would really try hard to understand what other people say about their religious belief. Moreover, the approach they use it too confrontational that leaves the others in bad taste.

there is a very little difference between them , as Quran came after the Bible so it contains more tougher rules to follow by the people from God.
God send both but we humans were not able to preserve it in the right way so, He send the last Book to connect and give His commands to the people.
He stricted the rules and prohibitted many others things which aren't given in the latter books.

No, his argument is faulty.
The first class of evidence is that spoken by Jesus, since only he lived a sin free live and therefore only he is in perfect communion with God.
Second comes words of Prophets, Moses etc. The Quran might come into this category if and only if, it could be shown he was a prophet but this is open to debate since he does not seem to meet the criteria of a prophet
all the best urban

Thanks. You have really done a great job to bring out the basic difference between the Bible and the Quran. And no doubt Muslims are fortunate to keep the three things apart. This is a great divine blessing for the humanity.......Well done, keep it up and keep writing.......

In addition to your long answer, I think there is one fundamental truth that is very simple in its answer. The text!
In the Bible we know, as it was compiled over the years, it has been doctored, tailored and interpreted in many a way. To this day there is not one single credible copy of the Bible which has not been fabricated. Once, a group of us went to Preacher's corner in Hyde Park, London and Christian was talking about the flaws in Islam. A learned friend of mine was with us:
Whilst the man was talking, our learned friend asked him as question: 'Can you please answer me from ....' and he picked out a verse name and book from the Bible. The preacher looked at him holding his own Bible. And then he continued his preaching, ignoring the request. The request was made again, and until again until the preacher went to the page and was read out. He asked 'what's your question?'. And our friend responded, 'this is in your Bible, but it not in my copy?' The preacher had no answer and eventually stepped down and walked away.
The point is, that which copy of the Bible do we refer to as the most authentic or truth based accounts, or indeed are the words of God. The Quran by contrast wins on all counts simply by:
1. It has the same original Arabic text as was given 1400 years ago to Muhammad, and therefore can be taken as the Word of God.
2. All the copies with Arabic alongside do not differ in the original text therefore all copies are consistent throughout history.
There is simply no room for fabrication since each and every language interpretation is taken from the original text. It is a bit like the nature of recording voice or video. If you take an original and make millions of copies of it, it will relatively hold a similar quality. However, if you make copy of copy a numerous times, the original recording becomes weaker and weaker. .
Thus the Quran is of original Master quality, whereas the Bible is copy of copy, a bit like Chinese whispers, without retention of the original Hebrew language.
