what makes a place scary?

I was just wonder what makes a place scary? Is it the atmosphere surrounding a place or is it something more like a sixth sense? If you were to go into a place not knowing it was haunted would you feel it anyways? Or if you were to go someplace that you knew was haunted would that trigger your imagination into thinking you were seeing things that weren't really there?
And what about all those episodes of the Ghost Hunters where they have captured things like voices and dark shadows- are they spirits or just camera trickery?
Have you ever been in a place that creeps you out? or do you pass by such places?
I know that when I was younger I would get all creeped out driving past an old ww1 cemetary on the way home. I knew that all those people were dead abviously but still what if?

Hello there! Well, a place might look scary when you are new into it and it looks strange. Example, a person got lost in the forest, where there are wild animals, that could be considered as scary. Old and abandoned houses could be scary when nobody stays in it for a long time then you tried visit it, you might expect for something that will surprise or scare you due to shock. Some people consider dark places as scary because there might be something hidden in the dark, it could be animals if it is on the forest or could be robbers on the dark places in the city. Anyway, it depends on the person if he/she is scared on a particular place. Have a nice day!

Wild forest was really a scary place bectause of the wild animals living there. But some adventures like INDIANA JONES really like it.

For me, I think what makes a place looks eerie or a bit scary would be those abandoned places like there have been no people living for quite sometime and stuff like that. And those rumored haunted places especially when they are abandoned too, just makes my imagination on a riot just thinking about it.

I just scare from dark places. Dark places are the most scary places. And the places. where people doesn't go or live usually for a bad record, that places are scary also. I have seen so many photos of ghost on internet and heard many many horror stories, but i haven't meet a ghost yet. Sometimes, after seeing some horror movies, i fell scared even on my bed!!

If somebody has bad memories from that place than of course it may seem scary to them. Also the atmosphere of a place could be scary as well. Dark and cold places scare a good amount of people.

Very interesting question! What exactly makes a place scare? I think it depends on your own fears. If you fear ghosts or werewolves, vampires you'll find a spooky deserted place scary. If you fear murders and other psychos you can find lots of things scare - villa's in the forest, lonely street in unknown neighborhood, madhouses . . . In my opinion our own fears make a place scary.

I don't believe in ghosts. In abnormality in a place. For me a place become too scary, on how do you think what's in that strange place. What i mean, only people makes a place to be a scary place. We are just deceive by our minds. But what about in places like forest? What so very scary in a forest are those wild animals, but sometimes wild animals are just scared because they were disturbed by people they just trying to protect their habitat or territory and theirselves. How about in some dark places? They become too scary because you don't know whose out there hiding behind tall grasses or behind the bush.

For me the reason that makes a place makes scary is the dark phase of a places. Then a place became more scary when you know that there is no human living on a particular area and the wild animals are hiding along the trees, animals which are ready for you to eat. Then last is the silent sounds that you may hear when you are alone on a place which is scary. Then after a while you will hear a very scary sounds like scream of animals.
When a places do have this reason. There is no reason for me to be alone and that's why I need someone to be with me on a dark place like haunted house and a wild forest.
