now this is news!!! ellen steps in then simon is leaving? is he not having approval on ellen as a judge? har har har just my opinion. it is stated on the news that his contract is up to May 2010 only. he will be producing another reality tv show and he is also one of the judges so he will no longer renue his contract with idol. "'The X Factor' will launch in America in 2011 with me judging the show and executive producing. Because of that, this will be my last season on 'American Idol' this year," Cowell told". so now they are looking for a replacement, a big shoe to fill for simon is one of the attraction of American Idol. any replacement in your mind? do you think he has to leave the show without finishing the season?

yes i agree, paula left because of money so i am sure that is the same reason why simon is leaving. like the first responder said wave a higher salary towards simon and he will not leave the show. har har har. though he has a valid reason that he will be producing a new reality show that he is also the judge. lets sit and wait and find out. thanks a lot for the response

I think you may be onto something as far as the publicty stunt goes. They have us chatting about it here, now don't they? LOL. I think it's crazy that Ellen should replace Simon. His stark honesty while brutal at times is mostly spot on! If you can't sing, he tells you that, maybe not so nicely. But I know I am an okay singer but I'd never put myself in a competition so maybe they need a cold blast of air to wake them up.
Simon has often said that the judging should be on the talent and not the popularity or good looks of the contestant, it'll be interesting to see how his show differs!
If they want the show to continue they need to mix it up and get a big name person who has industry backround like Randy to come on board, not a comic turned talk show host like Ellen.

yes they got us all talking specially that seasons starts this week. ellen will not be replacing simon, for ellen is replacing paula. i agree on what you say that simon is a good judge, he does not say it in a nice way but he is a good judge. ellen will just be a judge to break the seriousness of the three judges that why she is there. if they will replace simon i hope someone who is popular in the entertainment industry. thanks a lot for the response

Ah...thanks for sharing that tidbit...I was thinking that Ellen was replacing Simon not Paula. Sad not to have Paula since I really like her and will miss her kindness.

Hi 7thbird,
It's okay--it's a good break for Simon. I know he will surely be missed but let's give others a chance to shine to as a judge in american idol. he has a new life and show to attend to. so, let's be happy for that change and be happy too in welcoming the new one in american idol!

do you watch "if you think you can dance?" the producer of american idol is the producer of that show too. all of the judges on that contest know how to dance, they are all good dancers and choreographers. i wish if they could find a replacement to simon it would be someone who knows about singing. i dont have nothing against randy jackson, Kara DioGuardi, paula abdul.... but there is always a question for me what can simon do. he wont be miss if someone who knows about singing will be replacing him. thanks a lot for the response

I think Simon said he would fulfill his contract with American Idol. So I don't think he will be leaving in the middle of the season. I don't know who will be replacing him as judge but that person has some big shoes to fill. X-Factor is a popular show in Britain so Simon thought about doing an American version of it. Its like American Idol except there is no age limit for the contestants. Simon said he would be a Judge on X-Factor. I don't think I will be watching American Idol once Simon has left. He was my favorite judge on that show.

well that would be kind of him if he would finish the season first before he goes. that would really show his professionalism. i like simon as a judge too. sometimes he can not say his critism in a nice way but he is still saying the truth. true that simons shoes is hard to fill. i heard it at TMZ that the idols are looking at elton john to replace simon but they also said that sir elton does not like to take it. thanks a lot for the response

Is he? And are you referring to Ellen Degeneris? Will she fill in for Simon? I don't think Ellen will make a very good judge because she is too funny for the role. Simon is harsh and severe with his comments, straight and direct while Ellen will surely be saying a lot of funny stuff. I don't think Simon will leave the show before the contract ends. We'll see...

no, you got it all mixed up. ellen is replacing paula. but simon says his contract ends on may so idol are looking for a replacement for simon. i dont think also that he will leave in the middle of the competition, and this news was out plainly for gimik purposes. thanks a lot for the response

Simon never said he was leaving before the contract ends. He said he was leaving at the end of this season. The show is over at the end of May. His contract is up when the show ends and he will be leaving then. How do you feel about Kara. I have been saying since last year that she needs to go. American Idol never needed a 4th judge.

I'm not understanding why you ask "do you think he has to leave the show without finishing the season". His contract is up at the end of the season. No reason he would be leaving before then. I think Simon's shoes will be impossible to fill. And once Simon brings X-Factor to the US, American Idol will be a second rate show. I will move to watching X-Factor probably although I don't like some of the differences between that and American Idol.

Yeah I've heard too. I think it will be very difficult to find a replacement for Simon, especially since the ratings for the show has been declining through the years. I think one reason people watch the show is to watch or listen to what Simon has to say to the aspiring talents. If he's gone then the show would would be just like any talent show around.
Although I think that with this news, more people might watch his last season.

i agree with you that it is not easy to find a replacement for simon, people are relying on what he has to say on every contestant. people may think of him or see him as a mean person but still his piece of mind is what people listen. i also agree with you that this news is just a gimik, so people will think that maybe simon does not agreeable with ellen on the show. thanks a lot for the response

As an audience, I really would not want to watch American Idol anymore without Simon because it wouldn't be the same without his quips and most of the time honest and tactful judging. You are right, it is really a big shoe to fill because there is only one Simon Cowell. Actually, when Paula left, I was like it's okay because Simon is still there but now, I am day by day losing interest to the show.

i agree with you, that he is mean and very tactful but what he says is true. paula is a neutralizer maybe she cant get the right word to say but she knows what it is to be on stage and to sing. i will not miss simon IF the person who will replace him is someone who knows about singing or performing on stage. thanks a lot for the response

American Idol has just signed contract with several of the key stars for 3 years. Even if Simon leaves after this season, American Idol producers have to continue paying the others if American Idol fails to continue.
However, I doubt that the studio would want to cancel the most-watched American talent reality tv show especially since that it still draws the biggest tv audience (other than sport tv show). Sure, American Idol is losing a sizable audience as the seasons progress, but the number is still huge enough to claim the number one spot every year.
As for Simon Cowell, I believe, at the end of the day, money can change his decision. Wave a good sum of money in front of him and he would stay. I don't think Simon is going to leave without completing the season. Each contract covers a full season, if I am not mistaken.
As for Ellen, I think she is there to fill in the chair for half a season. I predict Paula Abdul would make a comeback halfway through the season. I think it is a publicity stunt - anything to get the rating up.

i felt too that this is just a gimik. for people to watch the show. i am sure there are a lot of people who felt sorry when paula was no longer one of the judge but on the other hand people also wanted to see what would american idol be with ellen. i am just wondering why ellen? yes she is funny and me and my wife enjoys watching her show... but i just cant understand why ellen? well we all have to sit down and wait. i agree with you saying that it is all about the money. thanks a lot for the response

Maybe he does not like ellen as a judge. Well he hs his reasons, and that is producing his own show. Sure American Idol made him rich for now he can afford to produce his own show and be mean to a different contestant. What does the show X Factor means? A modelling show? hehe. Watch out Tyra... joke. But Simon is a big foundation of AI seeing him not seated on the judge seat will lessen the contestants stress but i dont know about the ratings.

what i know is X factor is a singing contest too that is popular at UK, and simon is bringing it to the US. i think this will a a competition between AI. and what is more funny simon is getting paula as one of the judge. i wouldnt be surprise if randy jackson will be at x factor as well, though he has his own reality show. thanks a lot for the response
