I don't use public phones or pay phones. I don't have the need. When I got my first cell phone I was still living at home and I had no need to. I've had a cell phone ever since, only now I'm responsible for the bill. I have two lines on my account and my partner has the second line. There are payphones around, but few and fewer exist thease days. and even if I used one, I couldn't afford it.

When I travel, because roaming charges are terrible, and when in emergencies my cell phone crashes, I have had to use public phones more then once because my cell phone battery was always dying(found out had a defect) the problem was I only knew a limited amount of peoples numbers by heart so had to carry an address book along with my phone that was frustrating.

in the past, the roaming charges is really very expensive, but now, much cheaper. i dont know if it's the same in ur country. i also dont know much numbers by heart, suddenly, i think i need to write the numbers on a notebook.

I often use them when I'm travelling, especially the ones on which you pay with coins. They are cheaper than phoning home with my cell phone, and it is a good way to use all the coins that usually end up in my wallet when I'm travelling. I usually pay with notes and just collect change.
