In this age of computers and mobiles there are different ways to sent New Year greetings,at the click of a button...So how did you greet all your loved ones...Did you sent the greetings by SMS,Ecards or voice messages over phone.I am sure the age old habit of buying greeting cards and sending it by post is fast becoming obsolete....Some of you must have thrown a party too...But tell me,do you sometimes wait for the other person to call you before you sent your greetings? I know some who greet you back only if you greet them first...Do you think this is a healthy attitude.....?I believe New Year is the time to revive some long forgotten friendship, which often can be revived by a warm new year greeting....What are your views on this?.....

Hi Rose
to be honest i never believe in NEW Year and its celebration. So as usuall i never sent greeting cards, but i do send thank you messages to those who GREET me.
so after reading ur this discussion, u raise a question that Is it Healthy or Not??? So u better decide about it.
Take care

Ha ha ha UJ
well its me
who says i am broad minded
dont u think atleast we should say thanks to them who send messages.
other thing such events and such days become rituals and only for PR. very rare sent honest and sincere wishes
most of them forwarding received messages.
Anyway, take care

well well.....and why is it that you dont believe in New Year celebrations at all......Its the time to get in touch with your dear and hear ones and by greeting them a happy new year you show that you care for them.......I must say this is an unhealthy attitude that you are showing......And by greeting only those you greet you isnt it just narrow mindedness.....???

ha ha ha.....rose dear....saach bolu ke jhoot.lol. This year I felt it very boring to wish any body as I really did not feel anything new.......I got new year cards from friends and relatives.....some of them I have still not opened (horrible me) and to some I just replied with thanks..(stupid me). So in short, this year I did not make any effort to wish new year to anybody and also wished that nobody would waste time by wishing me. But you see , though I did not expect anything.....new year brought back me, my dear friend (you) and many more here on mylot....so now only thing I can say is LUCKY ME........lots of love and thanks dear for making me smile.....

Yes rose.......now a days, hidden mom inside us is very restless.....one situation that no mother likes to see is the separation of children from them. I think this separation is actually a slow poison that slowly slowly tortures you and kills you inch by inch.......and this pain is not even visible to anybody....and somewhere I think this has deeply effected me after my son has joined army.
Any way Rose , lets not get deeper into this topic....right now I am in good mood as I found you and all nice friends and mylot .......so wishing you WELCOME BACK AND VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.....TO YOU AND TO ALL.......

Hi Rose!
I extended my wishes to near and dear ones through e-cards, SMSs, telephone calls and in person. Sending paper greeting card is no more prevalent and people just make do with SMSs and e-cards. I alsor received many wishes/greetings and all were through above mentioned modes.
Have a nice day!
Deepak
PS - BTW, I started a similar discussion, few days ago, here is the link:

Hi Rose,
In this age of computers we have stopped exchanging our postal addresses. Nowadays we only know each others email id and mobile or else landline no. So that is one reason why I could not send greetings to anyone by post. I emailed most of my family and friends and the rest whoever I had access to by mobile I sent them an SMS. I usually send an SMS to everyone in my contact list because this is one time that I get to contact everyone and revive the relationship. And if I have forgotten someone and they send me and sms then I do wish them back.

you are right mayka.....technology has put things at our finger tips but has widened the distance between us.......We dont even bother to go to our neighbours and wish them, and sent an inpersonal Sms Instead......I still miss those days in school where sending greeting cards was a thrilling exercise...I used to make a list of persons to sent greeting cards a month before christmas and new year and spent hours at the store to chose apt cards for all my loved ones......Now I too just sent sms and ecards only.......

my wife sends out text messages of greeting to everybody we know. she does that also last christmas. on people we know who lives abroad we pack small gifts then we send a card together with the gift. we make our cards personalize for the picture on it is our family, me, my wife and our son. then we mail that with the gift. we dont care if they dont greet us, well before i dont greet anybody but my wife has this trait that she greets everyone even they dont greet or even they dont greet back. so now i also adopt that trait. i greet no matter if they greet back and no longer wait for them to greet us.

Hi Roseo, Earlier the excitement would begin weeks before the new year eve. I used to buy greeting cards and send it to all the friends and relatives.I cant recall exactly when this stopped. But now it is mainly phone calls and sms. This year I was with most of my close family as we were all celebrating together. I wished my children who were away at the stroke of midnight and a frw close friends too...All in all it is much more easier to keep in touch now and hasslefree..But I do miss the excitement of sending cards - all the best Roseo, happy mylotting

Hello Kiran its good tb be with you after a long interval......And thanks for the elaborate response and the clarification....Yes I agree greetings today has become more mechanical and though its so much easy to sent Sms and emails,I feel its losing all the warmth and bon hamie......Its becomine rather mechanical and automated...You often end up sending the same messages to many and reply with "Thanks same to you......"....most of the time....
Yes and regarding th last part of my discussion, it sometimes happens that when I ring some one and wish them a HAPPY new year they immediately say that they have been waiting for my call and wondering why I had not called....he..he...There are all sorts of people....
any way wishing you a Happy 2010.....

To answer the last oart of your discussion, I would call someone who I feel close to without waiting for them to do so. But it has to be mutual, they may do it for another occassion....I feel that one should be flexible regarding such matters..

I called people on the phone and if they were very far away, emailed them with ecards. I can't wait for other people to call me. They're on cheaper calling plans, I'm long distance from them, but they aren't long distance from me.

Hi dear,
I agree with you, New Year is the time for remembering about our old friends (not forgotten but may not be keep in touch on regular basis). To be very honest, this year I have not purchased a single greeting card for posting. I have sent the cards through mails. I have sent sms too for some selected friends. Those who don’t have internet facility, I made calls and greeted them directly. This is the first time; I have not received even a single greeting card by post.

Mostly . we send greetings on phone or e card,,I feel If I greet first or second is not important,, The respect is always there,,If I greet first the other person will be second,, and that does not make the other person less important,Happy New Year To you and your FAMILY

I haven't finished yet, there's still a bunch of New Year Eve cards under my table, just waiting to be written on. Maybe I should do it to NCIS tonight, as NCIS isn't really the most demanind program to watch. It doesn't take my full attention. And then there's commercial breaks of course, have to have something to do during them :-)
