I am Dutch and of course heard the news about her passing away. She's the second most important person in the Dutch second world war history, just close after Anne Frank herself, who has given us and the world a great insight in the world of asuppressed person in the second world war, it is thanks to Gies that we now have the possibility to have that insight, if she didn't rescue the diaries of Anne Frank, either they would have probably be burned and we would never get to know about Frank and her life. I, of course, also go out to the family of this fairly unknown hero.
