When my daughter turned 8 is when we actually gave her a chore chart with her list of everyday chores. Her chores range from making her bed, doing her homework, feeding her dog, picking up the dog poop in the yard, and clearing the dinner table.. for each chore she does she gets $.25- $.50 per chore per day. She comes home from school looks at her chart and does what she needs too. then she gets her allowance biweekly along with her chore money.. she was getting an allowance regardless but then there came the " mommy i want a puppy" " mommy i wanna go see that movie" " mommy i want a new game" etc etc.. so she has worked up and saved and managed to get these things that she wanted.. now she is working on saving up for her own DS hand held game... of course i know it will take some time for her to get there so i give her the chance to earn extra money and she likes that idea... I always told my husband that our kids will never have to do chores i stay home all day that is my responsibilty and it still is, but i think chores are a great way to teach children responsibilty that they have to grow up and learn that they need to work for things that they want.. what about you.. how old were your children when they started doing chores.. are you giving them chores as a learning tool, to save up for something or simply because there is no reason they cant help arouund the house after all kidsa re animals.. LOL =)

I started giving them chores when they show interest in helping me in the kitchen and that was when they were around 7 years old. I learned it from my mom when we were asked to do the laundry as young as 7 years old. Cooking was only started at a later age. But I never pay them for doing the household chores. I only give them pocket money when they go to school. That is the best training for kids as the home is the best place to learn doing little things that would build a strong foundation for their future.

thank you for your response.. if i gave chores the moment my children started showing interest my 2 year old daughter as well would be having a chore list.. she practically does anyways.. LOL while my 8 year old does her chores her sister is right there by her side ddoing it with her.. its to the point where my daughter gets home from school and my 2 year old walks up to the chart and says come on sissy lets go clean!! LOL its so cute

I started really young but with little things my son is 4 and we have a chore chart most things are things like brushing your teeth but it is a good way to help remind him of the things he needs to do by himself. But he also loves to help feed the dog and empty the dishwasher. I think it helps him to learn that it is good to help out around the house.
