I was not aware, before being a member of mylot, that so many people ate rice as their staple food. In my country we eat some rice as a side dish, but we eat wheat bread and other kinds of food.
Through this site I learned about my friend´s countries. And I also found out that other countries had serious famine problems. I knew it, but it is different when you actually know someone from a certain country.
I did find though a way of helping with my little grain of sand (or rice, in this case). I play a game every day at www. freerice.com, a site sponsorted by the United Nations that donates rice to people. Please check it. I also downloaded the toolbar and I can search the web from there. For 5 searches they give 2500 grain of rice.
Please, check the site!!! Some of us say we couldn´t live without rice, others say that are "bored" of eating too much rice. Some children have noneCould we help from mylot?
What do you think? Thanks beforehand for helping! God bless!

I think it is a little scary that by some people rice is considered a little as a poverty food, because i find rice extremly tastey and you can make so many great things that go well together with rice :)

A billion is certainly also a huge number which is hard to imagine or even to count to will take along time to say every number from 1 to a billion. I know so many delicious menus which contains rice :) Just a few days ago i got coconut rice with shrimps in mango.

How about getting into www.freerice.com ? I can see that you love rice. Me too. There is a billion people that need rice and don´t have it. Why don´t we help? I play the games at the site sometimes, other times I do my search in the toolbar that the United Nations provided for this donation. Please check it.

I'm Sicilian and was born and raised on pasta! LOL! But, you're right. Rice is a very important staple for a vast majority of cultures all over the world. I remember watching an independent film at our library here in San Diego. It was a Japanese film and there was this one scene where they were eating rice. It was just plain white rice. Nothing fancy. As I was watching that scene I got such an incredible urge and hunger for a big bowl of rice! It was incredible!
I prefer brown rice because it has more fiber to it. White rice is like paste in your system. Brown rice is so much more healthier too.
I'm always amazed when I watch documentaries or some PBS program about the rice patties in China. It's so incredible to see it and how they are all laid out to take advantage of as much land as possible. There is one section of China where the rice patties are grown on mountain sides. It's amazing how the land is cultivated to prevent erosion and thus prevening loss of rice crops. It's really a work of art.
I don't love rice as much as pasta, but, there are times when I do love a good rice dish.

My greatgrandfather was italian and as it is from my mom´s side of the family, eating customs and recipes have passed from generation to generation. I love pasta too! But each culture has their own staple food. Imagine who you would feel if you had no more pasta in your life! And in this case, it is not replaced by something else, but by famine.
I hope you join forces with us in this campaign to help out a little those children that are starving.
Hug!

Hi Marguicha,
rice is the stable food in our country and I could not stand that rice steps out from my life and I think Spaghetti or other wheat would not replace. Thanks for your information here that we could donate the rice to the people who really need it and I figure that it could be great help to contribute our effort in such kind of manner.
In these two days, I saw a movie 2012 and it happened that the massive earthquake in Haiti occured, a complex of feeling comes to me that life could be continue with the united love of human being.
Hope that love and health be with you forever.

Thank you so much! I hope we can all help a bit. It´s not a lot of work, really. When I don´t have time to play the games it is because I´m busy searching the net. I do it from the freerice toolbar and earn even more.

I have heard of this website, they give rice to the hungry.
I actually thought of donating, but i cant until MyLot sends me my paypal cash.
All this time people had to realize to us rice is just a side dish or main course, and to me its something i dont even realize and hate it. WHen actually people across this world are hungry and actually eat nothing.

I think it is meaningful enough if you spend some minutes on the freerice site or if you download the toolbar (you earn a lot faster there while you are checking whatever you want).
But you are right: It takes an earthquake to learn that we are crying that we are poor when we are the rich people of the world. Once I read an email where it showed me how rich I was because I was reading an e mail. I knew how to read, had electricity and internet (luxuries), had time to read it (leisure time)etc. Right now I´m a little bit hungry because I have been playing in the web. I´ll never starve: it´s just a matter of opening a fridge that is full of good things to eat.
Take care and let´s each put our little bit. Take care!

hi marguicha,
We also have rice as the main food. with curries, dhals, liquids, rotis, curd. We also have bread, but rice is the main food for us. we first start with rice with dhal and ghee, then rice with curries, ......, finally rice with curd. Many of us don't feel the meal complete without curd at the end of the meal

Rice is realatively easy to grow in tropical and semi tropical climes and is the main source of both food, and dietary fiber in many populations diets. The Chinese, Indian and other easten cultures, such as the Japanese, the Phillipine Islands, most of Asia consumes rice by the tonnage every year. In America we import most of our rice from these overpopulated and developing nations. Rice certainly takes much less space to grow than Americas common potato and their is more dietary fiber and nutritive value in rice than in any other starch bearing food source. It is also easy to make and it fills the belly well.

Hi Marguicha,
Rice is our staple food here in the philippines. i love eating rice but it makes me gain weight that's why i am trying to lessen my rice intake until i can live without it. we received lots of rice donations after we suffered from all the calamities the past year. thanks for sharing this.

My meal is not complete without rice!!!I agree with the shortage of rice supply issue arising in some countries and I believe my very own country is no exception. If you go to slum areas, you can really witness this. It is really really so sad to look at my fellow countrymen suffering. Our government is not able to resolve this poverty problem for a very long time. Here in our country, there is what we called unequal distribution of wealth - only a few experience the wellness of life.
I'll try to register on freerice.com, this is new to me....Hmmm, it feels great when you help!
Thanks marguicha!
