For Christmas I had gotten a huge dog bone for my dog Poolie. This bone is the length of her. But since then when ever she is chewing that certain bone she becomes sort of possessive. If you look at her or are close to her she starts growing. Well, apparently I was too close. She bit me so hard that on one hand I was bleeding a tiny bit. It was so hard that I actually started crying and my hands started to shake. Both my mom and my boyfriend said that I should throw the bone away. So I have decided that I will do so. What causes a dog to become that possessive over only a certain bone and not the others?

First I'm sorry she bit you and I hope your hands feels better soon. I think that the taste or smell of the bone might be the reason. She might like it more than the other bones she may have. Also I'm not sure how old she is, but it could be a puppy stage. If she is an older dog it could be she's just getting nippy and grouchy. But I agree with your mom and boyfriend that you should throw it away. After awhile try and to give her a new bone if she still acts the same, maybe you should talk to your veternarian.

Thanks. My hand is getting a little better. It still hurts when i make a fist. She just turned 3 this last fall. So I guess she wouldn't be considered a puppy anymore. But she does still get very hyper at times. And at times very sleepy. Sometimes I think she is bipolar from being very hyper to very sleepy. There is usually nothing in between. lol. Well I do have other bones and she still chews them minus the meanness. But she was cute carrying around her bone that was the size of her...until she bit me that is. lol

I am so sorry that happened to you,my dog became dominate of the couch,so I no longer let him on it without me having him on my lap.I watch dog training shows, they tell me how to deal with these problems,I watch Victoria Stilwell,Its me or the dog and Cesar Millan the dog whisperer. Both shows are very informative and had made huge improvments in my dog,I know how it feels to own a toy possisive dog.It hurts... Your dog is being dominate of his possitions. This can help by teaching him the drop it command.Entertain him with a treat or toy you have in his hand while hes chewing the bone. Then when he drops the bone say drop it,then give him the treat or toy you are holding and say take it,then reward him. This is actually hard for me to explain,I am really trying to learn these training methods, most of them really do work.I hope I helped by suggesting this to you.
