would YOU accept a job as a tv presenter?

as apparently politicians (gore and palin for example) are following the example of big brother contestants and trying to get into show biz i was wondering if anybody else thinks this is actually a worthwhile goal.
now there is money in it, you do get to be on telly and no dount your mam will be appreciative, but on the other hand you have to smirk and read inane stuff off the autocue.
so would you give this a go or not? in my case i have to be honest and say that i might do it for the money but i would feel uncomfortable afterwards.

I don't think I'd do it. I'd much rather have people wonder if I'm not too bright, than to remove all doubt.
Plus the benefits of being in front of John Q Public's face, for a fee or not, is apt to blow up once the tabloids put their spin on it for those who didn't see the original. I would imagine that comedians will play close attention, too. Nope, not for me. Hmmmm, do you suppose there's money to be made in promising NOT to go on the air?

LOL...guess I shouldn't quit my day job just yet. And thanks for your kind words. Might just print and save them for the next time I'm having words with my step-daughter and she doesn't want to listen. Although she doesn't have enough money to get me to stop, once I start....

No thank you! That is NOT my idea of a good life. While I think some of the old-time presenters like Parky and some current ones like Andrew Denton (Aussie) are more creditable than others, I would not want their job.
I prefer my life just the way it is and wouldn't change it for anything.

honoured to have a visit but aren't you supposed to be trying to annoy me by not replying to my erm high quality discussions x? you are right though - i doubt you'd get on fox - one brain cell too many. what about doing fluff presenting though - smirking and wittering about celebs? i'd do it if the money was ok, then worry about it on my cv.

That's an interesting question but, I would have to pass on an offer such as that. I think that most political mouthpieces make a$$es of themselves.

Yes, Zeph, you're definitely unqualified when it comes to making an a$$ out of yourself. You're normally pretty reasonable and you know that that's not allowed!

I try hard to be reasonable but, at times I do fail. I'm sure my husband would love to tell you that a few times a year; I do make an a$$ of myself lol

Once I got used to it all I think I might be good at it.

I think it would take some getting used to and then I would be fine.

Even if I wanted to do it for the money I'm afraid if I ever were to appear on TV I'd get so nervous I wouldn't even remember my own name! Most of the people you refer to, such as Gore and Palin, were already quite comfortable in front of the cameras before actually getting paid for it. Actually, I wouldn't mind accepting an offer (not that I'd ever get one...lol), getting the "make-over" and wardrobe they'd probably provide and then pulling a Palin and quitting!

I would in a heartbeat. It's just like what we all do here, just on a huge scale and for a lot of money. Sign me up!!

If I could decide what the show would be about, yes. I want to do a show about huge machines--war machines, newspaper printing presses, wind turbines, big ships...every male between the ages of 2 and 102 would watch it every week.

How much would it pay? If it was enough, I could live with the discomfort :D

i have different reservations - mainly i really don't want to be linked to fluff. so far i have been on telly twice already, and would happily have not been. first time was when i was writing for a then very small newspaper and had to sit pretending to type in the background. second was getting interviewed for public opnion on the street - and the problem here was i was with an ex i didn't want people to know i was back with (i was 20 and this was important)

I have been on TV twice in my life, both times as extras on TV shows. Once, many years later, my neighbour at the time saw me while she was watching one of the TV shows while doing her ironing. She quickly rushed next door and told my wife that she had seen me and they had a big laugh over it. That was my 15 minutes of fame, so I guess I will not be on TV again!
Oops, I lie, just remembered one more time I was on the local news as I was involved in a dragon boat race which was promoting a large sporting event that was coming up. There was an ex Olympic Gold Medalist behind me and the cameras were focused on her, thus capturing me as well...LOL

Hiya jb7800,
Reckon this would be very tempting although I would think about the negative stuff like having the Paps running after you all day long and asking you all those daft questions about your love life and all that. That would be the negative side of the coin to put up with and I think I would have to really think about it. Or course on the other hand I could make a lot of money and then buzz of the other side of the world and live there in seclusion somewhere in a house no one would think that you would live in for example just a thought. In Spain these kind of Reporters are merciless they are outside your Door day and night so yes a lot of thougth would have to go into making money this way. Good luck to all those who make it though.

no not one chance, not if I was bound and forced, no no no Blue bunny I do not want to do that silly stuff, let others smirk and posture and read stuff wrong off the autocue. would rather watch than be doing that, and as for my watching that, really I would rather be mylotting, if and when mylot ever starts to load in less than four minutes. gggrrrrrrr.

I would love to have been a children's TV presenter back in the 70s/80s doing all sorts of silly stuff (none of your clever clogs, serious Blue Peter stuff) I'd have been happy bouncing around doing the "I'm a little teapot", slapping glue and glitter around, talking to puppets and inanimate objects and reading the stories with voices... - well, thats pretty much what I was doing really but not getting paid for it - totally missed my vocation there. I'd love to be in pantomime too - oh no you wouldn't...oh yes I would...

Maybe, I'm not too sure. For me, it would depend on what subject I would be covering and whether I would be able to cover it. Also, I'm not sure if I would be able to handle the harshness of the public and having to earn their approval all the time.
Damn, it's a hard choice. At least my parents would be proud though

IDK, I think because of the fact that it is Al Gore and Sarah Palin, It sounds pretttttty lame, But if I was to do this by myself I think I would give it a go. I know that it is very rare for people to make it in to show business, especially at my age, but I believe that I have what it takes. HOPE THIS HELPS.
