Hi sparksssss.
Fasting needs to be a part of the Christian life. Prayer and fasting went hand in hand back when Christ walked.
In my basic elements of Christianity, I define Christian fasting as "Where the child of God is so intent upon communing with God, or desiring a request from Him, or is intercession, that they abstain --totally or partially --from food and at times drink, and spends the time they would be eating seeking the face of God as directed by the Holy Spirit."
I have "abstain -- totally or partially" for the very reason you mentioned about the ill and let us also include the elderly. When Daniel was up there in years he abstained from "pleasant bread." We can assume he was eating vegetables.
This is excellent that you have brought up this topic. Christians need to be reminded about this spiritual tool.

I think it is important and every church pastor or priest teach is members about fasting and prayer. I have learn that as a christian it help me to communicate with God and it allows you to reflect on the things that you want to get ride of out of your life.
When you fast and pray this is also a good way of get ride of something you want to clear from your mind and it is time you get to communicate with God. This time can be spend at your own conviences and you know that all that you want to tell GOD. What ever your problem he is just there to list and provide solutions to them.
I found that if I am down and when I fast and pray for a day are two I feel renew.
I know that as a christian this help and build up my christian life and help me to focus on the right path with my GOD

Yes, fasting is a part of Christian life. As others have explained, it doesn't necessarily mean fasting from all food, or even from any food. Abstinence is an act in which we consciously move our focus from our bodies or surroundings to God. If there is something in our lives that seems to be more important than it should, it's an act of obedience and love to give it up, even temporarily, and replace it with prayer and meditation.

I agree with you my brother that many christians really would like to fast but because of health reason they don't. But I think that as a christian if you have health issuse you could fast for no more than like two hours. I sugguest that if a christian want to fast first consult your doctor about your problem and then ask him for advise.
I think if you are sick you can get healing too so I would suggest that you pray and ask God for his guidance and you would be surpirsed to see the result that you get by just deicating that one hour worth of fasting to GOD

Fasting is a spiritual practice, not a requirement of faith. Instead of taking the time people who normally devote to eating, they pray or focus on God. You don't have to fast EVERYTHING. You can fast from certain types of food or from certain meals. You don't even have to fast from food. You can fast other things like television, computer time, or video games. Since you can fast from basically anything, anyone can fast. All that is required is that you go without something (Something that is an integrated part of your life or something you really enjoy) for a period of time and use the time you gain to pray and focus on God.

yes it is. Not only Christians who practice this act but other religions also do the same. Fasting is an act of abstinence, reflection, meditation and refrain from eating too much. Fasting in the Catholic understanding begins on Ash Wednesday. This is the time to strengthens your relationship with your creator.
