why is captain planet's skin green?

why is captain planet's skin in the cartoon green?:) Does he even wear any clothes or is it just the color of his skin?:)

isn't it blue and his hair green? maybe they really have to emphasize that it's like earthy... planet earth like colors... eheeh... just a thought..

It is to symbolize that he is the champion of the earth. After all its one of the colors that you think of when you consider the earth. It's the first time I've ever heard of Captain Planet in years. I used to watch that show all of the time. And I still have that theme song stuck in my head. Once it goes in, it will never leave!
