How often do you wash your blanket?

You know, that piece of thingy you use to cover your body when you sleep. Some people call it a blanket... how often do you wash it?
I know some people are outright gross (*looks around innocently*) and they only wash theirs once a year. Some do so every month or every week. Of course some broke the record by never attempting the act at all.
So what about you? Do you ever wash your blanket? How often do you wash it? Once a year? Per month? Every week? You don't use a blanket? What?

Not sure what exact blanket you are speaking off. I don't keep a blanket on my bed because I don't have a queen sized one, besides my husband gets too hot. We have a sheet and a comforter. I wash the bedding (top sheet, bottom sheet, pillow cases) every couple of weeks, maybe more often depending.... The comforter only gets washed every 6 months or so.

Um.... so you lie on your bedsheets... what's on top? The one touching the top part is your blanket... your "top sheet"?

Um... blanket... any piece of cloth thingy you use to cover your body with in case you get cold in the night (or fend off mosquitoes )? Alright I don't use a comforter, just blanket but I supposed your comforter acts as your blanket...

Dear friend,
My blanket is mostly washed at an average of two or three months. May be it changes according to the dirt in it. If too much I would change it. May be changing blanket is more as there is two dozens of blankets and these are washed at an average of every 3 three months that too if it is seen any dirt in it.

I don't wash it often. It lays between the sheet and the quilt so it rarely gets dirty. I wash the quilt more often than the blanket because my dogs lounge on the bed. In fact, I only use a blanket about 3 months out of the year. I only need it in the winter season and usually end up throwing off the covers anyway.

Don't you find dogs dirty since they run all over the place and sleep on your bed? I really want to get a dog... but thinking of how dirty it would make the place, I kinda hesitate.

They're not dirty at all. They mostly stay inside and there is a rug beside their dog door to catch any dirt they bring in. They get bathed about once a month and they don't even need that. They are short haired, rather small dogs and don't shed much. The only problem I ever have is when it's muddy outside and I'm not here to wipe off their paws.
A dog needs a lot of attention and access to the outside so you would need a dog door. If you can't do that, maybe a cat would be better. I love cats but I'm allergic to them. They are very clean and affectionate. But there's nothing like having a good dog!

I think don't wash there blankets for many days, it differs, because of the people in our society, example : people living in the slam areas usually wash there blankets once in a year or twice, people who are living in highly devolop areas will wash there blankets once in a month.
coming to me, i wash my blanket once in a month.
finaly, i says that it depends standard of living of people.

Hello my dear friend, long time no see, Happy New year to you! Well as for blankets I have to say I never wash mine! But before you jump up and down and call me fit to burn and being a dirty wolfie, I have an excuse, I don't use them. I can't have blankets on my bed because I generate too much heat as it is, I don't need them and also I find that wool irritates me. I have a big duvet on my bed which I wash fortnightly, and that is all I need, I don't feel the cold which in some way is an advantage!

Generally speaking, when a cat throws up on it, and at the end of the season - but since I'm not doing anything but sleeping under it and the cats are sleeping on it, it would be instantly covered in cat hair as soon as I put it on the bed anyway

Well, I live in a country which is quite hot for about 9-10 months of the year. We cannot imagine sleeping under a blanket. We only take it out for the winter months and then put them away.
If you take this year for example, I took out my blanket in the last week of December. I washed it before using it like every year. I will again wash it when I will no longer need it. I guess it will be sometime around the last week of January or early February. I will wash it and put it away for the rest of the year.

Hmm... for me, I can on the air con here. But even if I don't, I just have the habit to sleep with blanket anyway... no matter how hot (though it usually won't get too hot over here).

Depends on which blanket your talking about, wizard. I have over 20 of varying degrees of material/warmth/size. The 3 main ones get washed at LEAST a few times a year, depending on how dirty/smelly they get and if a cat pukes on them or not. Then we have a few hand-knit blankets and throws that get washed on a as-needed basis.
I bet yours actually stands up on it's own which is an indicator for you to wash it.

Hello lordwarwizard,
Be it hot or cold, I need my blanket when I go to sleep at night! That is one of the routines before I can sleep 'soundly' *laughs* I wash my blanket every week or if it gets dirty, I just throw into the laundry basket and wash it. My husband has different habit - He doesn't use a blanket at all; doesn't matter whether it is cold or not!

My daughter, who works in a boutique hotel turned me on to this trick: Put a flat sheet OVER your blanket, and encase the blanket by folding the other flat sheet (the one under the blanket) over it. Keeps your blanket clean, and a great trick for staying at hotels. I always ask for an extra flat sheet and remake the beds so the blanket is enclosed.

hhaaha unfortunately i haven't broken the record yet. i wash my blankets maybe every 2 weeks or sometimes, i might forget and it extends to a month ehehe i'm the lazy type so i don't usually think of these things. it's my husband's influence that i wash it so often, sometimes often being a week. hehe but that's seldom of course. he's more of a clean freak.

Since my blankets are too big to fit in the washing machine I take them to the laundrymat once a year at the end of winter and then pack them away during summer until winter again! during winter I ventilate my blankets once a week and leave them in the sun for 1 hour or 2 and hit them hard with a stick to get rid of dust and what ever I find this help to keep the blankets nice smelling and clean. Im allergy to dust so I have to do this every week in winter time.
