Why ask?

I'm always puzzled when ppl ask me where I am when they call (I work from home as a csr) I do have a standard response but still-I never ask a rep where they are when I call to pay bills or get account info-I ask about their call center if I have a complaint but that's it. Does anyone have an idea why ppl ask "where are you?" to a customer service rep?
