Today Sri Lanka win the 2009 Idea cup by beating worlds No1 one-day international team India. In the whole tournament Sri Lanka did well. They lost only one match in the group stage.
At the today match both sides had their full team.In the beginning Sri Lanka lead the game thanks to aggressive bowling style of two open bowlers Nuwan Kulasekara (World's No1 one-day International Bowler) and Chamara Welagedara.India were 5 down at 12th over. But in the end India was able set some scores in board thanks to Raina.Could it be enough to defeat Sri Lanka ?..Does Raina's century in vain or Does it saved the India's honour ? Is there Any weak points in Indian batting lineup ?
In the second session of the match, Ashis Nehera took out the Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga.Did others helped him ? However Sri Lanka entered the game well with same performance of T.M Dilshan & Sangakkara. In the middle order they were faced little struggle by the good bowling of Harbajan Singh but after him did other bowlers carried this pressure continuously ? Is there were any problem in Indian bowling or cool Mahela's brilliant inning took the game away from India ?
What are true reasons that happened India to lose & Sri Lanka to win this trophy ??

1 2 3 4 5 they were the real fault of the defeat of india against sri lanka in the idea cup 2010 final. Deu to the fall of 5 quick wickets india went into the backfoot and could score freely. I will just say that batting was the real fault in indian team on wednesday. Gautam Gambhir was unlucky but all the rest lost their wicket pretty easily. Really poor shot selection of Dhoni, yuvi, sehwag and kohli. Kohli did really well in that tournament but on final poor shot selection. India has been performing not well in the finals according to the stats provided by the news channels. Bowling was good but Batting is what played against india.

Ofcourse , Raina saved India's honour but runs on the board was much less than enough to defeat Srilanaka. 320 runs should have been the target.
Due to some swing of the ball in the start of the innings troubled the top order batsmen. Sehwag played so carelessly, inspite of falling of quick wickets. Ofcourse, Srilanka's strike bowlers pulled the match away fom India. Jaywerdana played a fabulous innings aswell. Zaheer bowled well but Sreshanth needs to work hard. Jadeja and Kohli are promising players and performed well in the series. The team effort of Srilanka was also splendid.

i know that this team is going to lose, because no one expect dhoni cared about the match and throwed their wicket easily and bowlers thought that they were working for some one else and they forgot that its an international match and they have been playing for their nation for which they are getting 3-4 lakhs as a fees..you cant say that the opposition was really tough enough as they have some lack of techniques which our bowlers didnt even care to notice..such is the status of this team..whom do we blame for this? ourselfes for making such a worst team to look like the best one or the players themselfes who had been dogging and cheating us on every series...
Happy mylotting

rather than blaming it on the Indian team---i would prefer the toss man coz its been like the decider of the match in this series-the one who bats second would have an smooth sailing towards the victory and the same happened in the final too.it was more of an predictable win though and its unfortunate that nehra had to go early else they would have worked hard to win the final.good to see a ton from raina's bat man it was great and he has done it under pressure really well.great day.

India batted poorly last night. Their batsmen were good all series but they flopped in the final. They just did not get enough runs on the board given the conditions the bowling second. I think it was more of Indian batsmen giving away their wickets then the Sri Lankans getting them out. Their short selection had to be questioned, especially Yuvraj and Kohli who were in decent form.
The bolwing was also ordinary, they picked up the early wicket but then just leaked runs. They need to learn how to bowl to their fields. You cant afford to make those mistakes at international level. Dilshan and Sangakarra played well, but they were gifted many runs and that should not have happened. Mahela again was brilliant for Sri Lanka. He used all his experience for this final and took it away from India slowly but surely.
The middle order fumbled and India has a good change to get back, but then came the dropped catches. Credit must go to Raina for the brilliant hundred under a lot of pressure, he would be very dissapointed with the loss. But in the end there were not enough runs on the board. Had they scored 260 it would have been tight, 270 would be very interesting and 285 would have been a certain win.

The main reason is a bowling side, batting is pretty good now, batsman's did the fair job
from the 1st ODI,but from the first the bowling side was not good ,they 're not give
the chance to new bowlers like sudeep tyagi. he did the good job but they do not give
chance they give chance to any new talented player.definitely they will deserve the idea
cup.
surely in my point of view.

Why we are going to looking for fault each time. The fat is that Srilanka played exceptionally well in all departments of the game than India. India lacked in batting first and then showed the same performance in bowling department too. India never looked determined to win the match today. I think they are mentally disturbed after a low scoring innings.

India might have won this match in the end also, if only had the bowlers handled the pressure well and responded to the demand of the situation and bowl accordingly. As expected by Zaheer Khan, he should have delivered some wickets when it mattered the most. He was bowling well but never took the match to the opposition and never looked at his very best in the tournament. Also, Sreesanth looked he had already given hopes when he came in to bowl the second last over. If only, I guess, the Indian team would have shown positive intentions and went ahead of carrying out the task of winning the match, then it would have been a different story. Apart from that, I think that the hamstring problem to Ashish Nehra proved to be a major drawback for India in the finals game as he was already threatening the Sri Lankan batsmen!!

The truth is India never wins continuously. If they win two matches then there is 90% chance of losing the third match.
And batting collapsed today because of lack of planning. They didn't have any plan how to set a target. They thought they will 'somehow' score a good score and that 'somehow' didn't happen!
Frankly, 246 is an easy score to chase for opponents unless you take 3 wickets within the first powerplay.
Lankans scored 64 with a single loss of wicket in the first powerplay. That is where they set the winning.
With such a good start only foolish batting can make you lose a game. So lankans just played sensibly once the basement was built by Dilshan and Sangakkara, especially Mahela.
Another truth is, Indians don't have a match winning champion bowlers. They have the bowlers who shine at times but not consistently.
You need bowlers who make batsmen to play a wrong shot and not those who expect batsmen to make mistakes.
Indians are always like this. They win some and they lose some. Consistently winning is difficult to expect from them.
Over all, this is nothing new! Indian cricket team can crumble in any match. And it happened in the final. They have a history of this kind of losses in finals too!
Hope they search for answers and come up with a good performance in next matches.

Don't need to search the reasons, instead Indian team should concentrate and be serious for the batting line up. It is always bad luck for Indian players to have poor batting capacity in the gloves but the lot and lot of money. That's the reason why hands have less grip on bat but very much firm on money matters.

in my opinion in today there was fault in every departments. Bowling and fielding is not good going for very long.To became number team in one day matches India need to improve there bowling and fielding.India is number one in test matches because of senior players sachin, dravid and laxman.
