Hey baby...

Long before I had children, I had a friend at work who was leaving and I was replacing him. And when he introduced me around to people, I remember one woman was pregnant and he walked up to her and said, in a squeaky voice, "hey baby". And the baby replied, also in a squeaky voice, "hi". Later, away from the mom, he told me that when he does that, the mother almost always replies back as if she's the baby. Funny.
Have you ever tried that? Do you talk to other people's babies before they're born?

I talked almost constantly to my own before they were born, but I wouldn't think of doing it to another woman's baby. Neither would I think of rubbing another woman's tummy, which seems to be quite an acceptable thing to do these days.
I find the biggest difference in pregnancies these days is the way the mother-to-be dresses. I loved the old style maternity dresses and in fact one of mine (blue of course) remains my most favourite dress ever. I made it with a pleated front with a guipure lace motif round the neckline. It was lovely. Nowadays, I see heavily pregnant women walking around town with a tummy sticking out over their low-cut jeans - not at all lady-like.

Scarred them for life, oh perish the thought. They liked it when they were babies.

Oh yes, when my grandbabies were still inside my daughters. I've never done that with someone else, though, as I'm not sure who would like it and who would not. :)

I'd feel funny if it wasn't somebody I knew pretty well. I used to sing to mine more than talk to them!

No I find this both rude and very creepy and have been known to tell people who do it how I feel. This goes for people I don't know or know well walking up and rubbing my belly. Don't touch me!

Touching the belly, definitely a no no. Talking to the belly, for me it would have depended on who it was...
