I don't usually succumb to stereotyping, but this one has got me puzzled. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a masculine, straight man wearing a winter scarf before. I've seen a few of my male metrosexual or gay friends wear them of course - but for some reason, I just don't think that scarves have really caught on with "macho" men.
So, macho men out there - do you wear scarves? Can you help me dispell this stereotype? Have any of you noticed the same trend?

Hi maezee,
So it is now gay to wear a scarf I have a few scarfs and the last few weeks with the weather we have been having, I have wore one most days.
My favorite has to be my PLO scarf, the saviour of the Biker and a long grey one and a black one. I have always fancied a very long colourful on like Tom Bakers Doctor Who but I doubt I would pull off the look

Now that I think of it I don't think I have ever seen a man wearing a scarf but to be honest ny husband is masculine and if he wanted to wear a scarf i wouldn't care as long as it wasn't pink or purple. If it gets cold enough I would wear just about anything to keep warm....

I think, I think...
Some of the macho men out there are married, and have the ball and chain tied to their necks. And some others, have jobs that force them to wear ties around their necks. So they don't need anything else that could choke them, including scarves.
Just kidding maezee. Have a nice day!

Where I live, or more so just in my neighborhood there are quite a few straight guys that wear scarves. The people in my neighborhood are really hippie-ish and artsy. The guys I see wearing scarves aren't really "macho," but more like straight guys you'd see at a Jack Johnson or Regina Spektor concert. .

as far as I know there is no stereotype.
men wear scarves too. it's not considered to be a gay thing.
my husband wears scarves quite a bit.
I wouldn't say he's macho as such. to me macho is a negative personality trait.
he goes to the gym most days, he's very tall and quite broad and manly, but he also has longish hair, loves wearing jewellery and isn't too narrow minded to worry about other people thinking he's manly or not.
and when it's cold he wears a scarf to keep warm.

Hi maezee,
I just do not think that men have issues with the scarf and that it has anything to do with the masculinity issue.
Contrarily, I find that it is just being a personal issue of preference and trend. I personally do not have any issues as far as preference is concern but I will have to consider what I am putting on for the day. And whether it will inconvenient me when I need them off.
Let me assure you that you are not being stereotype here. It is just some people's personal preference and sense of fashion.
Take care and have a nice day.

there is no winter here in our country, but guess what funny for there are people who wear scarves. why? i think it is a fad. its to hot here but some guys and girls wear scarves just because their favorite artist wears one too. so i guess it is fad. maybe in your country you wear it for comfort but here it tells a different story. so i can see straight men wears scarves and females too.

I'm a straight guy, married with one child. I'd wear a scarf, yes why not? Burberry has a whole line of scarves for men. But not only Burberry, others too. They're not like some of the square ones that women usually fold into a triangle or whatever. They're usually plaid, and looks like a very long rectangle. You know, a scarf.

Many heterosexual men wear scarves especially in the winter. If you go to downtown NYC you'll see plenty on the streets. I myself, like to wear turtlenecks but not everyday and the right color scarf makes a perfect substitute. The right scarf can add a certain sophistication, flair or swagger to an outfit. Not to mention that it keeps your face, neck, chest and ears warm at the same time. It's also great for covering up thoses accidental hickies you might get in the moment of passion, lol. I consider myself very much a man and have no problem rocking a scarf outside. The real men are the ones that are comfortable wearing what they want despite what others think. Now unless your wearing hot pink or rainbow covered scarves I see nothing wrong with it. As a matter of fact, I've seen our President Obama and many celebs wearing scarves in public and if Obama is gay, then so am I!! Lol
