What's the weirdest pet you've ever had?

I've had your stock of normal pets such as cats and dogs and hamsters. I've even had pet mice (fancy mice, not just plain white mice). I've even kept turtles and frogs for a time. However I think those are your pretty 'normal' run of pets.
The strangest pet I've ever had and currently have are hermit crabs. Not too many people think of them as pets and people tend of think of them as nothing more than throw away pets which annoys me because they're entertaining, and can live for quite some time (15+ years if cared for properly) so they're not just throw away pets.
So tell me, what is the weirdest pet you've ever owned? Did other people think it was strange? Do you still own that pet?

Hi highflyingxangel. The weirdest pet I've had would have to be a duck. I don't know what others thought about it as I never asked! LOL However, I know they're not an ordinary pet.
I've owned a total of 4 ducks, though not at the same time. Unfortunately I don't have any of them anymore. Two of the four got attacked and killed by stray or wild animals, including my last one that was attacked by a hawk. I don't really recall what happened to the other two.
My sister and I each had a hermit crab when we were growing up. I had no idea that they lived so long! Neither of ours survived past the first shell transfer...
The only other weird pet that I can think of was a tarantula. Though it wasn't mine, it was my sisters. LOL
Happy mylotting!

I remember when I was at school, most people had stick insects at one point, because they are so easy to look after, and whenever they bred, people would bring the babies in to school and people would get them. I actually rather enjoyed having stick insects.
at another point, a lot of people had those big snails, but I didn't get one of those.
but probably most unusual was when I had a tarantula, and it was when I was in primary school, so not very old at the time. she was called Pinky.
we've had all kinds of pets, from rabbits and guinea pigs, cats and dogs, rats and hamsters, ferrets, fish, stick insects, horses, and of course, the tarantula
at this current point in time we have dogs (well, my mum does, we moved out recently, but still consider them part of our family) and at home we have rats. I can't praise highly enough what wonderful pets rats are. they're so rewarding and loving.
I like the idea of having some kind of reptile one day, but at the moment I don't have the know how, but maybe further down the line I'll look into it more seriously

I farmed for many years, and my favorite pets were Ferrets. I used to carry a ferret around in my pocket in the barn, and when I'd bring it into the house My wife would get up on a chair and wouldn't get down till I took it out. Once a neighboring farmer borrowed a ferret to rid his barn of rats. He brought the ferret back next day and said," there's no longer a rat in the barn because they have all moved into my house. ( Rats are deathly afraid of a ferret and will move out when they smell a ferret.) I have owned had a ferret for many years.

I had a grasshopper for a whole summer. I don't know how long they're suppose to live but it lasted a good year. I didn't even feed it or anything. There was grass and leaves from when I first put it in there but that was it. The jar smelled very bad inside. This was when I little and didn't know better. You shouldn't keep creatures in a jar, even insects.

The weirdest pet I had ever had would have to be a chinchilla but oh my god were they ever so soft and they just so much fun. I love how I could take them out of the cage and they would just hop all over you and even bring you raisins! They are so smart they could do little tricks. I even had frogs and even a pet snake along with a little baby rabbit I found outside he was just so sweet and loved.... pickles.

As you probably know I've mainly have had cats all my life, but also have had birds and mice (and yes, the cats did NOT bother them)---but for a "different" type of pet? How does crickets grab you? I used to love listening chirp

I'd definitely say that the weirdest ones I've had have been a gecko, a newt, and a rat. All of which I no longer have. I agree that they need to be looked at as pets. I look at my pets as "my babies". According to most animal trainers, this is the wrong way to think because it can create behavioral problems in that animal.
Unfortunately, I still do. :) Pets are supposed to be a part of the family.

I guess that depends on your definition of weird. I personally do not think any of my pets are weird but many do. :o) I keep Tarantulas , Roaches(Giants), Millipedes, Centipedes, and of course Snakes, Turtles and Tortoises. I used to have lizards. But they never do as well because I am such a snake guy I guess. Oh I also have Dogs, Cats, Goats, Chickens.. You know the NORMAL Stuff :o)
