Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but what makes a meal breakfast? Is it the first meal of the day? Sometimes I wake up at around 11am, if I eat something is it still breakfast? Or does it have a time duration, like from 6am to 10am. Does it have to do with what you eat?

ok in my mink, breakfast means the meal at 6am to 10am. i'd like to eat bread with milk or noodles for breakfast. but usually i get up around 10 am. then i don't eat breakfast. i just cook for the lunch, tranditional Chinese food with rice. i call it brunch.

Can you still call it brunch even if you didn't have breakfast? What if you're not going to have lunch anymore?

Breakfast is the first meal you eat each day. It means to break your fast. To "fast" from food means to not eat for a certain period of time.
Of course it has come to mean certain types of food or a morning meal. Some times we say we are having breakfast for supper when we have pancakes or eggs for our evening meal.

hmmm for me breakfast is what you eat when you wake up. i wake up around 12pm for i work at nights so i guess when i wake up and thats lunch for others its breakfast fro me. thats why i think. though i can no longer catch a breakfast at mcdonalds for they only serve up to 11am for breakfast. maybe its the time duration.... but for people like me who works at night then i guess when we have meal when we wake up then thats breakfast

I think breakfast means first meal of the day, and it is a morning meal. So I guess any time you eat your meal in the morning, it is still breakfast. There is also brunch, a meal that serves as both breakfast and lunch. I don't think brunch is with time reference, it is just for the purpose of both as a breakfast and lunch, two meals in one, but usually taken around 11 am or 12 noon.
