What is more important for you? Communication or grammar? In an international discussion board such as mylot, does grammar affect your decision to respond to discussions? Or would you not bother reading the discussion at all because of it?

I don't mind imperfect grammar where the meaning is clear. What does turn me off, though, is the use of 'txtspk' contractions. There is no excuse for using these because the correct spelling of the words is clearly known by the people using it. People who use such contractions automatically label themselves as careless, lazy and not worth my time in answering.

I know what you mean. Browsers can now recognize words with wrong spelling and it is automatically underlined in red. I don't understand how a user can lazily ignore that.

Hi, nocturn98. Grammar is more important to me. If I can't read what is written in an discussion, then I may not be able to respond to the discussion. Especially, if it is in another entire language. This will make it very confusing for me.

For me I guess both because how can you communicate well if you can't understand the grammar of the other person. There are just some words that will be misunderstood if stated in a wrong grammar. Here in mylot, grammar I guess is important so that we can correctly respond to the discussion more clearly. For me if I can not understand the topic I will just leave it and will not respond to it.

Not speaking the same language is a certain barrier in communication between people. However, there is a lot more in communicatoin than just grammar. If the grammar is decent enough for the person to be understood by the others, than there is no problem. So, in my opinion communication is more important than grammar. But on the other hand, if the grammar is so terrible that you can't even understand the message, than grammar becomes more important, because you may have some really great things to say, but when you can't express them the communication becomes impossible. So, I would prefer a good nice mixture of good post written in good grammar. I know that this is a social site which never judges its members by their level of understanding and writing in English, however I think that we shoud have at least basic knowledge to participate in it Have a nice day

I would say communication is more important than grammar..As long as you get the message across and the topic is interesting, a discussion is worth responding to. Mylot users are from different countries so it is only natural to have wrong grammar sometimes.
