Nrton is the worst anti-virous out there, but I suppose you already know that. I found that I like AVGG, because it runs in the background and doesn't give me any trouble, best of all its free there is a free version that does just as much as the paid version does. And now I don't have computer warnings claiming I don't have anti-virous on my computer.

I have tried Norton years ago but had problems. Since we moved from Nortons, I have been using AVG free version. I have had no problems with it. So I will be another person added to the list saying AVG is good.
Every one is different and will have different opinions. It is because we have had different experiences to what we all have available to us and what we use first, then the experiences we have with each program.

You are less clear in description of your question. If your mean is an anti virus that good detecting the virus, you should use anti virus that their data base are up to date. It's useless if you use well known anti virus if they aren't update their data base. Because new viruses, usually more sophisticated than the anti virus.
If the problem makes slow your PC, you can try using Avira.

I feel Avg is perfect for all type of computers even old one also. i am using Avg 8.5 full version that really amazing. you can try a free version from AVG site. But I prefer to buy a full version because it is just a small cost and it gives a good benefit. So try that.

I like NOD32 best. It's as light as a feather and so easy to use. It's not free though. It does recognize and remove the most viruses of all. The heuristics system is great too, new viruses are recognized in an instant and you really have the feeling you're contributing to the recognition of viruses as it asks whether it can send some non-personal data about your programs to their servers to check whether it has a virus and so on. It never misses so called in-the-wild viruses, it was concluded in a test. The competitors missed a lot of them while nod32 recognized them all. ;-)
