Fashion enchants me and in different eras they serves as the mirror that reflects the lifestyles of the people during the different particular period in history. Some says the fashion today is just a repetitive cycles, their are only revise or renovate to adopt to the modern times but basically when one have to study the root of fashion the basic foundation is the past eras. Most of the design of the clothes before are quite exquisite based from the textiles being used and most have particular like to have their own unique design as they are all particularly laid back. They could afford expensive clothing such as during the Victorian era where the elite dresses fashionably while being exempted are the peasants. While now days, most of the IN THINGS today in terms of fashion were fairly made of simple fabrics fabrics, light and very casual like wash and wear. Minimalism is the most spoken fashion as everyone like it in casual clothing for those who are ready to go. How about you, What do you think are the clothing differences before and as of the current time? Kindly shares your thoughts. thanks. 1-14-10

probably the differences with the matter of dressing and needs, in the past all dress with excessive clothing fabric and they are tailor made. today most dress could be bought as wash and wear for everyday wear.

Well, as time passes by and technologies improved, ple's mindset about things have changed as well.. Fashion will always be there, but there are not too much of bold changes to it.. Whatever is deemed casual in the past, might have become some sort of fashion now.. haha =D And whatever is meant for the rich and powerful to wear, has now become a common item, as long as one can afford it?? Fashion is not longer restricted, as the markets had already been opened up for more revenue.. haha =D

yeah, fashion have a different sense of independence now a days. Any person who have knowledge to improvise could even invented her/his own fashion, becoming different and unique from the rest. then, on the side of the designer and couturier they would only improvise the fashion of yesterday to accommodate the present fashion and add some styles to make it appealing to the modern generation...

hi flagella, That is very true and it see nice to see the old clothes being revive or recycled with an added twist it would definitely be still wearable. As long as you feel comfortable any clothes design would do and in terms of jeans i really like them too they are classical rarely get out of fashion most of the times, very flexible..

As you said, fashion is just a cycle. When I am watching old movies like old ones from the 60's I can see some fashion that are coming back now. I can say the large belt, I saw that one of one of Audrey Hepburn movie. Girls of today wear large belt to define their waist. Fashion artist just reinvented fashion as years goes by. the In during 60's, 70's and 80's are just coming back now but with different styles and color foundation. Even the hairstyles and make ups. I saw the hairstyle of Charlie's Angel during our Christmas Party, some of the girls curled their hair. I think the only difference is , the color foundation and the glittering they add to make it a new one, but the truth is, it is still fashion from the ages.

hi greychunny, well said... As you observe too the fashion trends is a revival and reinvention as designer have been inspired to imitate the past fashion trends giving a new twist to adopt by the modern ages. And the trends of today relive the glory that was very astounding during those past years...

I believe that the main difference is the amount of cloth used to clothe the female form. I have been researching the early 1900s when my mother was a small child. When she was born in 1904, to be properly dressed a little girl had to wear long underwear with long stockings over it, one or more petticoats or a chemise, a long sleeve dress that reached the ankles, a pinafore, and high top shoes. Only after May1st could the long underwear be traded for lighter weight underclothing. Just think that all those garments had to be washed by hand on the washboard, and the dress and pinafore had to be starched and ironed with a sad iron while standing by a wood burning stove. Now it takes less than a yard of fabric to clothe that little girl.

hi bellis, Yeah, that is also one of the many factors to consider as the the past fashion eras is quickly changes with the introduction of the basic clothing usually wash and wear. their is no need for elaborate designing and the people who wore it have never emphasize the strict dress coding but more prioritize is focus on the comfort aspects. Truly, the clothing industry massive changes either help the economy and make the whole life of the people easy.

today they are more up beat and relax with light clothing, light style and little fabric are used making the women look more sexy and appealing. unlike in the past the manner of dressing is more bulky and in the conservative side.

Fashion does go in cycles. I think hairdo's also go in cycles. Right now i think there is alot of tacky fashions & hairdo's. I am so tired of seeing women's boobies i could scream. I feel the same way w/some of people's hair w/no style. some of the hairdo's look like someone cut it blindfolded. I was a hairdresser for 47 years but i wouldn't know how to even cut some of the styles i see. I really wouldn't want to.

Hehehe..I would have no idea because I have never been one that was much into the fashions. I mean I try to keep my clothes up to date as i am not wearing things like MC Hammer pants or big hair but I buy my clothes for comfort over fashion. I do know that it seems that more of the older fashions are starting to make a comeback again....

hi froggielover, yeah, the past fashion are in the scenes again with much fuss about it and some designers just improvise it to adopt to the modern times. also the color of the year all the styles of the clothing industry are also following the same fashion dictation with what is the in things though in your case you first priority is the comfort rather than the fashion as long as one is comfortable in her own skin then fashion is just a style but one should not be dominated entirely as comfort as you mention is more valuable than anything else.

fashion from then and now are different in terms of proportion, silhouette, fit, and cut.fashion is a cycle.I have seen prints, cuts, and styles from the past eras revived by current designers.my ultimate favorite are draped dresses popularized by Madame Gres and tweed coats and skirts popularized by Coco Chanel.they're classics.for current designers, my favorites are Versace,Valentino,Donna Karan,Narciso Rodriguez,Oscar dela Renta, and Alexandre Herchkovitch.

hi there. fashion evolves. still, inspired by the previous trends of the centuries. pants, gowns, styles from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, etc., they always come back having an innovative character. i'm a minimalist and i'm always on the go. what i appreciate with the trend is somewhat its adjustment to what people need nowadays. comfty but not outdated. :)

the fashion before is out dated and the styles is match during their needs during the 1800 beyond the 50's. all have their own fashion and they are not useful todays more opt to wear casuals and with less cloth one look more pretty.

Yes! you are right friend, fashion is just a cycle, the styles, the kind of fabric used are the same as the clothes 20 or 30 years ago. In fact last week i saw my niece wearing the old dress of my sister and it is still in fashion. She bought that dress in 1986 and kept it in our cabinet but my niece saw it and it fitted her. We could also observe nowadays, that fashion designers make some modifications in the styles and in the materials they are using to keep up with the changing lifestyle of the people. Since there is a remarkable change in the climate, they also design clothings that are comfortable to wear during warmer days. More flesh are also exposed and lighter materials are used even during evening parties. Cleavages, backs and underarms can now be shown, unlike before.

I think that fashion is defined as:cut asymmetry, more and more transparent fabrics, clothes getting thinner ,color ,more and more beautiful. This is only my right in terms of our country. In fact, i also like the clothed, feeling a kind of different,to attract other people's eyes.
