If a person, celebrity or not, has benefited humanity in such a way that people of all nations, creeds, and races have been improved their living conditions and environment then I think it appropriate to acknowledge their deeds. However, I sometimes think that there are colleges and universities who use this avenue as a marketing prop to increase their entrants numbers. It's really a moot question. In the end what difference does it make. I don't recall anyone who received an honorary degree being referred to as "Doctor" but then I could be wrong.

If a film star is enormously sucessful and talented and amazing...maybe it would be nice to give them an honorary degree in acting. If a director has those same qualities, perhaps give him one in film. OTherwise- absloutely not. If you are not deserving of something then why should you get it, in those regards? And definately not a doctorate.

It is a good thing to confer honarary degrees/doctorates but the prefix [Dr.] should be changed for these people by giving some more respectful title. People who have served humanity in various fields, but they might not have gone to any university for any degree, such people [without politicising] should be conferred honarary doctorates, like great musicians, great social workers, great philosophers, great thinkers etc.
