As seen on TV...

Well I got a strange gift for my birthday. It was a box of brownie mix. Hm, somebody wants me to bake brownies for my birthday. Weird.
And then later (somebody was spacing things out throughout the day) I got a large box that I kind of thought might be the slippers I was hoping for. Funny thing was, Cary was really excited about this particular box.
I opened it and it was an "as seen on TV" brownie pan with divider. Cary started jumping around and doing the sales pitch of the guy on TV about how great the pan is. He wanted me to make brownies right that second, but since we were going out to dinner, I told him it would have to wait a day.
Next day, walk in the door, "mom, when are we making brownies?" "After dinner." "Awwwwwwwwww..."
So after dinner I read the instructions on how to use the pan and the whole crew got together to make brownies. "Mom, are they ready yet?" "10 more minutes." "Awwwwww..."
The timer goes off and I check the brownies. Still too moist in the middle. "Awwwwww....."
But finally, they come out of the oven. "Mom, let's put them on the rack." "Nope, they have to cool off for a bit." "Awwwwww...."
And ta da, we put the pan on the rack, the brownies pop out all nice and divided and everybody digs in. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Have you ever seen a boy get so excited over a baking pan?

Happy Birthday to you....happy birthday to you.....happy birthday dear dawnald! Happy Birthday to you.....my son gave me a set of glass baking pans when he was about 12....used his money from his paper route to buy them and yes...he was so excited! I still have the loaf pan and the cake pan from the set....and that was about 19 years ago!

Are you sure it wasn't Cary's birthday? How good of you to make HIS day special too! Four of my five boys are great cooks, but I've never seen them get excited about a baking pan.
Did you get the slippers you wanted?

He was excited about the pan as he was about the brownies! No slippers, but I can always order them myself....

awww.. lol that is so cute! I saw that brownie pan on tv. I was thinking about getting it for myself. no amount of hinting seems to get me the things i want anyways lol. My kids rarely get excited about anything like that. Maybe if I get that brownie pan they'll get excited and want me to make brownies lol. mmmm i could go for some brownies right now.

He was definitely excited about the brownies too, but you should have seen him demonstrating the pan. It was so funny!

Love reading about your happy family discussions. I think tis an achievement for a boy to see a successful brownie being made. The smell, the aura, the closeness of a loving mom - ah, a perfect mood for sure. Not bad at all.. delicious, I smell brownie already, Dawn.. can I have some then.

Hi dawnald,
No, but I've seen my hubby get excited just looking at the packet, and I had to bake them there and then, they don't last long, lol!

There are only 3 of us in our house and a plate of brownies don't last more than a day ever! I'll have 2, our daughter 2 maybe 3 and well hubby he kinda finishes the rest! Thank goodness he has one of those fast metabolisms at least for now...
I guess I am lucky they like my cooking even if baking from a box with just an extra egg and water isn't really cooking!!

The young man was very excited about the pan not the brownies it seems. I am very happy to hear that the pan held up to its expectations. I have seen some of those As Seen On TV items be a big disappointment. I like the one about the brownie pan too. I wonder if you could bake a sheet cake in one.

He was pretty happy with the brownies too! I don't see why you couldn't do a cake in it. You'd end up with little mini cakes, kind of like rectangular cupcakes.

LOL, I think that is great that he got as excited about YOUR surprise as he might have his own birthday surprise :)) Kids are so great that way, and when they pick out the gift and all goes well, they just love it!!
Sounds like a great birthday :)) Happy "late" birthday!

Happy Birthday Dawn--January 14. i hope i remember it right. my discussion about mylot friends birhtday date was deleted. i only remember some of the dates of those who responded and you're one of them.
That's a great gift. Cary amazed you so much for the kind of excitement he showed over the pan...he knows that pan will give him all the brownies that he loves. i am happy for you and your kids. thanks to the pan too for giving you the chance to have a great brownie bonding!

oh yea.when there's brownies or cake in it,they do.
hell,my older bro still makes the happy dance (although it's getting slower as he gets older ) when there's goodies in the oven.
i've been debating buying one of those pans.it reminds me of one of those old ice trays with the lever in a way.

AWWWWWW, That is so sweet. Reminds me when my boys were little & gave me gifts. U know u don't ever make brownies again w/out using your new pan, he would be devastated. Alot of people don't understand that little boys have "LOTS' of feelings to.

I bought that same brownie kit and two boxes of brownies for my dad(49) and step mom(39) for Christmas. My dad did not seem to enjoy it but my step mom was beaming. Later I heard that he got a lot of enjoyment out of making those brownies. I might have to go get me one.
