A budding sports kid who is almost as tall as the bat he holds and does not understand what's "reverse swing" or "straight drive" all about, claims that some day he would be like "Tendulkar". Why not like "Vishwanathan Anand" or Geet Sethi"? The advertisement makers en-cash the fan-following and the hero-worship these cricketers command. They are elevated over-night to the status of demigod, but not even a becoming welcome is accorded to the Wimbledon's doubles champions.

In opinion yes cricket is killing other sports in india you can see just now only how hockey players goes on the strike because they are not getting good pay as compare to the cricket team. When yesterday Mumbai won the ranji trophy by 6 runs Mumbai cricket association has given each player one lakh rs this think is not seen in other sports unless the player do well in international level.

Thanks for your assertive response.
A sport merely survives in the hands of its players but it lives and thrives in the hearts of the people who can make heroes out of them. It's the people who make a sport live or die. So let us resolve not to be spoilsports, control our obsession with cricket and give the other sports the place due but denied to them, or else we would be interring many a sports quite soon.

But what is the reason?
The problem is in our attitude. The media overexposes us to cricket to the exclusion of other sports because it is popular. Then it gets even more popular and the media shows even more of it. We would have to get out of this vicious cycle and fast. We will have to make a conscious and deliberate effort to restore a balance between cricket and other sports and ensure an equitable distribution of our energies for the development of all other sports.

I dont think so. See the more people get involved in cricket, it is better for other sports. It will give a rarity in the number of people opting for other sports. So if you choose atheletics or hockey or any other sports, you will be one among 100 compared to 1 among 1 million in cricket.
So there is option for everybody.

Hi Balaji. Thanks for your comment.
But the same number of people are involved in football and hockey even.
Do you think Pele, Maradona, Ronldo are ones in hundred?
Can you please clarify?
God Bless!
