Ornamental Tattoos on Animals

A hairless sphinx cat was recently given a three hour tattoo session (it was asleep at the time) to have an Egyptian sphinx inked on its chest and neck.
Animal right people, and some pet owners, are very angry about this.
Should this count as animal cruelty? Would you put a tattoo that large on your pet (not to be confused with a small identification tattoo)

I just found your discussion line but I did see this in an article on a news website weeks ago. I think it's pretty disgusting personally. I don't have any tattoos but I hear they are painful and a lot of work. I saw many people that commented on this that have tattoos and said that they would never put their animal through that. As a person, you can make the decision to go through the pain but to put your animal through the pain and the risk of infection is crazy.

Yep, I can see how being pricked a few thousand times by an ink filled needle could be painful. It even hurts AFTER the fact, and can get infected if not properly cared for until it heals.. Poor kitty.

hi nonersays,
That's weird. I will never ever gonna do that on my cat. I don't know what's up with its owner, I do think that it is an act of animal cruelty. Animals shouldn't be treated like that. As we all know, tattoo artists use needles in creating a tattoo which means that, it can hurt your cat and might suffer to some kind of infections.

Thank you!
Now, I have seen people with hairless pets put stick on tattoos on them, and I'm cool with that. But the thought of a huge REAL tattoo covering the whole poor kittys chest. -shudder-
