Inkblots on pants and washing

Inkblots on clothes in the wash - Inkblots left on clothes in the wash

When I got the laundry out from the wash this afternoon, I noticed a bluish tint on most of the clothes. Then I realized something must have gone in the machine with all the laundry. And as I suspected, I found a blue marker in one of my son's pants. Leaving a big inkblot on the pants. It's one of those small markers that if you don't feel every shirt and pants before putting them in, it will surely get mixed with all the clothes. Ugh! It's not the first time he left something in his pocket and just dumped his pants in the hamper. I've seen rocks, candies, play-doh, bakugan cards, and even nintendo DS cartridges. I should have checked it before it went in. How about you, what other interesting stuff have you left in your pockets that went into the wash? Have you worn clothes that had tints of colors because of laundry mishaps?

LOL! I think this has happened to every parent in the world! Just the other day my 12 year old left his chapstick in his school dress pants and of course when I pull the pants out of the dryer there is this yucky wax stain on all the pants! So, it does not end even when they get older. I have washed IPODs, DS games, phones, kleenex! The kleenex is bad because it gets all over the place in the washing machine and the dryer. Stinky kids!! But we love them. They make our lives interesting! :)

Ugh! I woundn't even want to know what happens to wax as it goes to the dryer. And yes! I've seen kleenex go in the wash. I've had to re-wash the clothes, and use the lint remover afterwards! I guess boys will just be boys! Although, I don't remember myself keeping stuff in my pocket when I was young. Either I never did or my mom didn't tell me.

My most recent oops was a red shop rag that had never been washed got in with a load of clothes. Even on cold wash cycle everything turned pink. I tried washing them again right away but didn't help at all. Well some of the stuff just didn't get worn again. But my 4 year old son had a couple pairs of underwear in there and so I had put a pair of the now pink underwear on him one day because I couldn't find any other clean pair and my husband almost freaked.

oh bounce I am a senior citizen who should really know better but I put a roller ball pen in my shirt pocket and forgot to retract the tip so I had ink stains on my shirt. I immediately sprayed spray and wash on it and took some of the stain out but my roomie had some oxiclean so sprayed that on, and kept rinsing it out and eventually I just had a little blue haze about a dime size.so put it in with my other clothes and the laundry gal came, well I got it back and the last vestige of stain was gone. hurray for spray and wash. that was a new shirt and I hated to lose it . and i didnt after all.

Oxiclean?! I should get those. Considering that it happens quite often. Luckily, the shirt that got the bluish tint is an old one of my son's. He can still use it inside the house or for sleeping. I would have hated it too if it were mine, and if it were new! Thanks for the tip Hatley!

They have clothing dye that will or should fix that right up. Maybe you could try a tide pen first, but I suppose it's set in so dyeing it would be the best bet. I think I've left gum and money, coins and paper money, but I can't think of anything else I've left. I'm sure as a kid, I must have left crayons and candies, and markers and toys in my pockets, and I'm sure it was an annoyance!

I've heard about that Tide pen. And I've seen it in commercials. I should try that. I think that is very handy, specially around my kids. Thanks SomeCowgirl!

yeah, that happen to me most of the times with those things you mention, i often left a candies, bubble gums on my pocket and in terms of ink blot i often got it when i am writing like in my school days before the uniform is long sleeves at the top so i sat beside my classmates we often bump each other sides so I end up with ink writing on my dress, It is so hard to wash though some stain are not just washable especially those from fountain pen so definitely I'll just have to set aside the ruin shirt and have to buy another.

Hair spray will take out ink and markers out of clothes. I used to work in a store and we carried markers in out uniforms. We were always getting them stained by the markers.

That would be hard if you keep getting inkblot stains on uniforms. Then you'd have to keep replacing them. If these uniforms are expensive, then you've got to spend quite a lot. Thanks neelianoscet!

Last week bounce..ball point pen and the inside of my dryer is now covered in ink stains..the stains are now set, I removed as much as I could and they are no longer coming off on the laundry but I had to dry some old drop cloths half a dozen times before it quit coming off. Here's a funny for you..way backbefore I started having kids I lived by this woman with 5 little boys, one day I saw her cutting the bottoms of their pockets out of their jeans. when I asked her what she was doing it for, she told me that when I had run 3 lizards, a frog, and horse manure through a wringer washer, I would understand. I never had the old wringer washer when I had my kids, but after a small snake and a cow pie showed up in the laundry..I got it.

Haha! That would be weird if there was some live animal in one of the pockets, or some manure. Luckily, my kid is not (yet) fond of living animals. Or anything in nature. He does keep picking up smooth rocks. If I don't find it in his pockets, I find it in his school bag, or his pillow on the bed. I don't remember doing the same when I was a kid.

Most of the time I find change and money left in my son and husband's pockets. It is always nice to get a tip for doing laundry. I used to work in a store and we would get markers on our uniforms and would wear them that way until I found out that hairspray would take them out.

Unfortunately, nobody in the family uses hairspray anymore. And hopefully, this doesn't happen often enough to warrant buying a hairspray. Thanks for the tip just the same.

I don't usually check what's inside the pockets before dumping the fabrics into the washing machine...It's already a habit but I am sure it can be changed. :-)
