Why are some people so obsessed with Sasuke?

If you don't know who I'm referring to I'm talking about Uchiha Sasuke from Naruto. Not to offend anyone but I don't see how people are so obsessed with this guy. I was in an anime forum the other day and there was this Naruto related thread. I just stated that I wasn't really a fan of Sasuke and the next thing I knew I was being attacked by all these Sasuke fans telling me that I didn't know anything and that Sasuke was the greatest character ever and whatever. I can only guess that a lot of these fans are young teenage girls who are into those emo broody pretty boy types.
Anyways, can someone tell me what is so great about Sasuke? I never liked his character from the start. His brooding I'm better than you attitude was a major turn off. I knew that guy was going to eventually betray everyone and turns out that I was right. He was one of the main reasons why I don't really keep up with the manga anymore. It got to the point where the story was more focused on him then Naruto, the title character.

If you are a girl and you watched the fist episode of Naruto you would be obsessed with him.
I won't deny that I like him so much at first but as the story goes on,
I changed favorites. I think his brother Itachi is much, much more cooler than him.
Even if he's stronger now, I like Naruto more now.
He's become a lonely and confused guy now.
At least that's what I think although his techniques are so powerful especially that Susanno.

I guess I was one of the few that didn't become obsessed after seeing the first episode. Probably because I'm not really into broody characters. I do admit that he had a reason for being that way but that didn't mean that I liked how he went about it. And his character kept on getting stronger and stronger while on the other hand, the main guy Naruto didn't even look like he improved as much (he probably did but we never get to see much of it).

well, i don't fall for cartoon characters. but sasuke is essential in the naruto storyline. i guess you could call him an antihero. with the whole 'emo' type thing, people these days may like that. i like more the conflict in there between the 2 male characters. i don't obsesses over it like a fangirl, but i like the anime/manga as a whole. his character is one of a lost vengeful boy who's full of hate. a person similar to naruto but took the wrong path to get there. like garra he had a chance to change. garra wasn't the best character but then naruto opened his eyes and he became a good character. everyone is watching sasuke to see if he'll 'turn back to good' and stop his revenge on practically everything.

You do mention a valid point there. If only those obsessed fangirls would have mentioned something along that line instead of going off about his looks or whatever...geez...
Anyways, I have a feeling that Naruto's going to finally get through to him in the end and he'll become a 'good' guy again. That sounds really lame but for some reason that's how I think things are going to play out.

I neither love nor hate Sasuke's character, though I understand why a lot of people like his character. For the typical fangirl, Sasuke's the Bad Boy - mysterious, cool, edgy, and whatnot. But y'know, not all those fangirls love him for those aspects alone.
Sasuke is a very complex character - there are layers upon layers to his characterization that fascinate me a lot. I reckon I'm coming across as someone who adores him here (I don't, I promise you - he's not even in my top 3 XD), but his childhood trauma and his personality just... make me think, when I do come around to it.
Since he was a kid, Sasuke had always had a superiority/inferiority complex, which is really something. Superiority complex because he belonged to a respected clan (Uchiha) known as police officers, and inferiority complex because his father kept putting him down. Not to mention that he was always compared with the older brother he always looked upon, his idol. It was really crazy for a kid like him, who adored and loved his family so much.
I think that's what draws me to him, despite the fact I don't adore him - had the massacre didn't happen, Sasuke would have been a sweet character like Hinata, except more withdrawn because all the Uchiha were very private. But the massacre did happen, and that he was left the survivor after his brother, his idol, killed everyone else, left his superiority/inferiority complex to fester. It also left him with PTSD, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, overlooked by the village (the same village that ostracized that kid Naruto - you could see how little Konoha thought of their kids). Imagine just how f*cked up Sasuke was.
At a young age, he decided that his purpose was to kill Itachi, which was in itself the mission his brother left him. Here, we'd learn that Sasuke lived for a purpose - he worked best when he had an objective (which Orochimaru, then Madara, took advantage of) and without a reason, he couldn't act at all.
The massacre also left Sasuke emotionally weaker. He withdrew away from everyone else because of fear of being attached, because people close to him could arouse his emotions. Sasuke was more dictated by emotions than logic (he admitted before that emotions were his weakness, that's why he strove to be indifferent) and when his emotions were roused, he acted impulsively - that is, without thought.
Remember that part where he learned that Itachi was looking for Naruto? The emotion that rose in him was not rage at his brother, but worry for Naruto (someone who had become closer to him than a teammate). Because of that, he acted impulsively - he set out alone, then he found Itachi attacking Naruto, he got enraged, Itachi attacked him with Tsukiyomi, he got hospitalized, then Tsunade cured him. It was only when he was okay that he realized he was weaker than he thought (inferiority complex), followed by the anger that Itachi chose to notice Naruto over him, then his belief that he should be stronger than that idiot Naruto (superiority complex), then the hospital rooftop fight happened. And the rest was history.
I could go on and on but I'm sure you understand me. Those who are obsessed with Sasuke would give more deep insights into his character, so perhaps it would be a good idea to ask someone who is reasonable - that is, not like those irrational fans that quickly jumped on you for saying that you're not a Sasuke fan. Honestly, pouncing on you for saying something like that is silly. You have the right to say who you like and don't.
I agree that too much focus on Sasuke wasn't really great, though I haven't been following the manga lately. I could understand the focus on him in part, though - Sasuke was Naruto's goal, and Kishi's probably trying to heighten the anticipation for when the two fight it out. I hope it's epic, but not ridiculously so.
Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you. But if I did, sorry.^^;;

Wow, that's really in depth. And like you, I haven't been keeping up with what's going on in the manga either. But at least you've given a detailed view on why some people are obsessed with Sasuke's character. I can accept and respect that. It's when those fans don't and then get on my case that it becomes irritating. And I hardly see a reason for those irrational fans to get on my case, it's not like I claimed to be a fan and started bad mouthing him or whatever. But whatever's the case, it's too much of a hassle to let things like that bother me.

Most fans tended to be irrational, unfortunately. ^.~ It's just well and good not to let them bother you. ^_^

Because he's cute and he's cool even if he's just an anime character.
Sasuke is the type of person who's mysterious and quiet, that's why he's a magnet to a lot of people. =)

Sasuke appears to be cool but I'm not his fan. Most of the girls really like her but I still prefer Naruto. Yes I agree with you, I don't see why they love him so much. He looks a bit cool but not that cool unlike his brother Itachi.

You have a point. I get tired of seeing the same old "He's hot!" or "He's cool!!" or whatever reason used by those fangirls to explain their infatuation with Sasuke. That has got to be the dumbest reason to like any character, in my opinion. I also agree that Itachi was a million times cooler than Sasuke.

well, to be frank (but sry for my words), in the eyes of those Sasuke's fans, setting aside that he's a typical cool and unreachable guy, some other thinks his jutsu is cool, he has more looks than other character, his story of life is quite twisted yet interesting, he's on the right side of the story as a cool dark side, and many more. .
of course I'm not his fans of course, but my friend sometimes rambling 'bout this, so there you have it, -_-

I watched the anime and i find Sasuke cool but i dont see why people need to be Over-Obsessed with him, He looks Emo to me, always sad that part of him i dislike the most but other qualities such as his background story or his fighting style those i like.
Many girls in the anime series love sasuke so i think Girls that watch naruto can relate to those girls, I just understand why girls would love such an Emo guy is it because of his looks? That must be it...

I really think that maybe they should have had 2 naruto's, one from naruto's pov and one from sasuke's pov, you really could consider him the main character and I think its kinda cool how he can be a main character when he's not even in episodes lol but I totally get that you don't like sasuke , he's a jerk, he thinks he's better than everyone and he couldn't accept losing to naruto. I don't read the manga, but i loved the anime, and he really is a great character, the perfect kid with the perfect life, always trying to get out of his older brothers shadow, and once his older brother went bad and killed everyone he loved and left sasuke alive, sasuke had to choice but to follow in itachi's footsteps (betray everyone he loves, turn bad) in a messed up attempt to be better than his brother
he is a really good anti hero to offset naruto

I not so sure my self but i guess i like his character and the trait the creator gave him. Giving him that attitude and personality plus the skills he has with lightning element is pretty cool i would say. Another thing is i liked naruto too, You never know what he'll do.

That reminds me of when the first trailer for FF Versus XIII came out years ago. All these fangirls were going off about Square copying Sasuke's looks for their main character, Noctis. I was like "WTH?" Noctis looks a million times better and cooler than Sasuke ever will.
