What goes through your mind when you're listening to music?

My imagination tends to kick in during this period. I fantasize about being the main character in the song and how I am in somebody else's shoes. I also learn to see the world differently because I am able to perceive things beyond what's only visible to the eye. How bout you guy? What impact does music have on you?

well that depends. if i listen to dj music, i'll fantasize i'm dancing on the stage or with my friends. especially the songs from the tv show, So You Think You Can Dance. i'll imagine i can dance like they do. and when i'm fantasizing, then i become excited. this will affect my life, coz sometimes i prefer to live in my fantasy world than facing the truth. lol. it's my way to escape from real life.
but i can't always escapse, then i'll listen to gentle music. it can calm me down and make me feel peaceful. and when i'm angry, i like to listen to rock music. in the real world i have to hold my anger. but i can shout in my fantasy world and let the hard feelings go.

Sometimes it's hard to face the truth because of conflicts, detours, and mistakes. In a fantasy world, you can create the perfect reality. I have to say that you're a lot like Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye.

No problem. I recently finished reading Catcher in the Rye in my English class. So I decided that why not make a reference to the novel.

Music keeps me away from worries or if it a song then it takes me to the scene the song is about. It cheers me up and helps me relax which I sometimes need when I am tired from my daily chores and need some time to be alone with me and my music

It's like when we're sick, and we need to take our medication. We turn to music to make us heal.

When I listen to music, I usually think about the meaning of the lyrics :)

Hello,
Before I started taking music lessons I always did what you did, imagining myself to be the main character and his words as expressing my own feelings. I used to grasp both the music and the lyrics. But when I took music course, I found that my focus automatically changed from the lyrics to the music of a song. Now, I listen to so many things, but I am quite surprised to find that I often can't remember the lyrics properly, but I continue remembering the music. Even if it feels good, I am giving less priority to lyrics or themes of a song, subconsciously.
Thanks for starting such an interesting discussion
Take care

Music used to be huge to me. I had over three thousand songs. I would listen to them all the time and search for more every day. When I listened to it I would think up stories or impossible situations in my own life and things like that. Now... I don't listen to music so much. I lost all my files a while ago and I..just haven't felt like getting them back. I didn't listen very often. I do sometimes when I'm up late, but otherwise.. hardly ever. And when I do listen I usually just think of the words and clear my head.

Wow, you must have been furious when all your songs were gone. It's good to know you still listen to music and haven't give. up on it. I think if you listen to certain songs it'll help ease your pain.
