Today I had the good luck and the honour of watching the most spectacular site I have ever seen or ever witnessed...The Solar eclipse of 2010.It was announced well in advance that the eclipse would be visible fully from Trivandrum,Kerala where I live, and that the span of total eclipse seen here would be about 10 minutes.Watching the solar eclipse with the naked eyes is harmful and I used special protective goggles and I was able to watch this beautiful natural phenomenon for the full 10 minutes....I watched the moon slowy hiding the sun from the earth in degrees and finally when the moon came fully between the sun and the earth, the sun was seen as a bright ring of fire surrounding the moon....It was an awe inspiring moment and a novel and unforgettable experience to me.....

Hi Rose!
You are indeed lucky that you were in such a place that you got the opportunity to see the solar eclipse of the century, I understand that the next one like this will come up only in the year 3037. It must have been an awesome experience for you.In New Delhi, it was partially visible, I have seen its images in the evening on TV News channels. Many took bath in Ganges river in Haridawar on the occasion of solar eclipse, as Kumbh festival (read Mela) is going on.

Hi Dpk.....Yes it was a wonderful feeling to watch the solar eclipse LIVE ,something more than I had ever bargained for.At first I was a bit apprehensive about going out in the hot sun to watch something which I would any way see on TV along with the afternoon news..But I finally went and I thank god I did.....Because it was a unique experience, and seeing the whole phenomena right in front of my eyes, filled me with awe and wonder....I felt so belittled and humbled when I watched this nature's phenomena....I was near the sea and as the eclipse progressed I could see the sea becoming rough, the whole nature covered with partial shadow as the sun was almost hidden by the moon....Birds were crying and flying about, confused at this strange phenomena.....
I later learned that the eclipse was not much visible in Delhi, UP etc because of fog.....Here any way we had a perfect and clear sky and It wa s real treat to the eyes and the mind......

Hi Rose!
You are indeed lucky that you could see the extra-ordinary phenomenon, when the conditions were conducive and favourable and I can understand that it would been a life time experience for you. It is true that it was not so clearly visitble here in Delhi due to unclear sky.
Have a nice day!

You are absolutely right Dpk......It was quite an experience and even though we had rains on the previous day and the sky was foggy,on the day of the eclipse we had a clear sky and perfect weather....And this time school children were taken out in large numbers to watch the eclipse live from the observatory and free lunch packets were distributed to them by our government and they ate their lunch while watching the eclipse..This was to disprove all myths floating around here about staying indoors during the eclipse and not eating food during that time..And the children went home with a new experince and more knowledge than what they had bargained for.....

Hi dear,
I have not seen the solar eclipse and I was in office at that time. In Delhi the solar eclipse was partially visible. But I have seen the same in news in TV and many channels have given detailed reports. They have reported the reactions of birds and animals on the solar eclipse. It was visible from your place so you got the luck to watch it. I think you must be enjoyed by watching the same on first time. Thank you very much for providing the beautiful picture.
Have a great weekend.

Hi sree......actually since it was evident in advance that the eclipse would be very much visible from our little place, elaborste arrangements were made to watch it and to study it...The public could watch the eclipse from the observatory here. Also about 30 telescopes were set up at the stadium to enable the public ,including school children to wacth this wonderful phenomenon LIVE....Lunch was also distributed fre of cost to these school kids, and in some places "payasam "was distributed to dispell the myth that we should not step out of our homes or eat during the eclipse.....

Hi Rose, Oh how I envy you! I did not have the good fortune of being able to see the eclipse but have been looking at pictures on another site this morning. I know that it must have been a wonderful experience, and one that you won't soon forget. Blessings.

Hello Pose dear,Yes I must admit ,that watching the solar eclipse LIVE was an awesome experience, something more than I had ever bargained for...Seeing the phenomena on TV or just looking at the pictures is just an impersonal thing...But watching it LIVE was a different experience all together.I am sure the sight of the Ball of Fire, with the moon covering the sun and only its edges blazing like fire, surrounding the moon as seen fron the earth, is a sight I will never ever forget.....

Hi cupie....Yes it was a wonderful experience watching the eclipse unfolding right in front of my eyes......And believe me it was a wonderful treat to the eyes to watch this unique phenomenon of nature......Watching the coverage on Tv hardly compensate for the real first hand experience...
OH I am so sorry Cupie it never crossed my mind to take pics of myself watching the solar eclipse...I feel like kicking myself for my foregetfulness........
And thank you so much for your thoughtfulness in wishing me all the best so that I will be able to watch the next eclipse in the year 3043........

Hi Mayka.....Well I learned that not all people were destined to watch this rare phenomena and since it was told that during the eclipse, the very place I live would be very near to the sun at that time making it possible for us to see the whole thing clearly,I decided to take advantage of it....And I am glad I did.....watching it LIVE was a great treat to the eyes, and I was filled with awe and wonder when I saw the whole phenomena unfold right in front of my eyes.....The solar filter I used helped me to focus only on the sun and the moon ,and it was as though I were trasferred to a different world for a few minutes.....And when I came back home I just felt I had to share this wonderful experience with all my dear friends here in mylot...

Isn't it neat? I didn't watch this one, but I've watched a few of them. Mostly on TV because they say that it's dangerous and I don't have special protective goggles. Must be really neat to see it though the goggles. Thanks and take care.
