If there were not missing American in Haiti, do you think we'd be as involved

The US always always always helps out - even if we can't afford to do it. This time its different, there are a lot of affected/missing/dead Americans. Is it just my imagination or is the U.S. MORE involved than usual?

Due to the proximity of Haiti to the US, I do not consider us being more involved than with other disasters. I think what we are seeing is the fact that our response was faster becuase it did not take as long to get aid and cargo to them. The US is pretty good about providing aid where needed but unfortunately sometimes it takes longer than we would like for the aid to get there.

Don't get me wrong-I do feel sorry for those people over there but I think that Obama shouldn't be sending 100 million over to them when we have people here that need help. Charity begins at home as my dad always said. It's great that the world countries help each other out but who is going to help us?

I agree with you. I don't think we should be sending money OR troops over there. We need more help stateside. We are already wasting 10 MILLION a year + people on a "war" that will never be won and doesn't even keep us safe. All of those funds need to get this country out of debt and help people here.

I feel terrible for thinking that way-but it's the truth..And it angers me! This is why our country is going downhill.

I really don't think that we're more involved with aid to Haiti than usual just because some Americans are there. Don't forget there are many Haitians here in America as well. For instance in the borough of Brooklyn of the NYC area is a very large population of Haitians. I think Haitian-Americans then would feel insulted if we didn't help out

i think so. america cant seem to not be in everyones business.. i mean dont get me wrong. i think anyone that can help should because they do need help but i do also think america puts itself into places we dont belong and cant afford to help with

They are so close to us, and I think that is why we are providing so much aid to them. I also think Haiti might have to turn control of there country over to the united states.
