Tamagotchi- the virtual pet toy from Japan- was a big toy craze in the 1990's. I think I was in the third grade when I got mine, I remember it was a purple one with pink buttons. All my friends had one and we always used to laugh when the Tamagotchi pooped. w

Wow I totally remember those. I had one, and another thing like that with a different name that you could battle against each other. Digimon maybe, can't really remember it has been years. Those things were actually pretty fun, I think that if they had continued to make them and make enhancements to them they might still be around, I hear that internet version are actually pretty popular. You see little games kinda like it on all the social networking sites too. Could make it and Iphone app lol.

Can't remember what it was called, I just remember that there was these two little metal pieces on one side and you could connect two of them together using the little metal tabs and battle them against each other. I remember that was really big at my school when I was really young.

I do not remember this toy. I would not have heard
of it. I do not even remember if my kids wanted one.
Do you have any other information on it. I hate to
think I missed out on this. If it was in 90's I
would think I should know something about it.
Have a great day.

Oh yeah, the TAMAGOTCHI? It went to a craze when I was still on high school or college...I can't remember cause its been a while. THe crazy part of it is people dangle their tamagotchi pet on their bags. In school it came to a point that teachers prohibit bringing their tamagotchi in class because it sort of distracted students. Its crazy but they say it's very exciting to have one. I didn't have one during those days but I saw my classmates play with it and it was funny. Right now my neice have a toy just like tamagotchi...I can't remember the name but we found one in a toy store. It's shape just like tamagotchi but bigger and the improvised part of it is you can tickle your pet by pulling a feather shaped button...you can even tour the pet into the house and into the backyard...really neat! Anyway I miss the tamagotchi...I guess nobody sells one here in the Philippines. But i'll surely try to find it one of these days and i'll try to buy it if it's cheap. Nice topic you started here olisaur, happy mylotting.

Oh, Tamagotchi was mania years ago! Everybody had this :) It's one of the most original products ever made. It's some kind of game console and at the same time like real pet. A real mania!!! But somehow the Tamagotchi's time passed. It's becoming legend . . . There were stores with Tamagotchi section. Now I don't even know where to buy one if I want. Maybe someday it will return and make new BOOM.

I remember this toy very well. I love to play this when I was a kid. Feeding it, playing mini games with it, taking your pet for a bath and waiting for your pet to grow up are some that I like. But its kinda boring sometimes, because you do the same thing over and over again, still I did like it. :) haha. :) The important thing when playing this game is that you need to have a lot of spare time to watch over your pet and of course you need to be patient. :) Right now, I have one and I bought it for only 30 pesos in an anime convention. Sadly, it's already malfunctioning because if you idle it for only a minute it will reset itself. :) Well, that's what happened when you bought cheaper items. haha. :)

Yes, and I hated it. Mine was always breaking, and it was strange because it didn't really compare to having a real cat or dog. I have four cats, and they are awesome, and a virtual pet just cannot beat having a real pet.

Yes I do. I'm still studying when the tamagotchi came out. It is really popular here as well. I believe it is still existing here until now but it is upgraded wherein you can play in their website and then enter a code in your tamagotchi to get the items you've won or your prize. I know my niece have one of the newer version.

Wakkakkakaka. I remember the year that Tamagotchi was hot, LOL. All around people were buying the stuff like crazy, including myself. I remember mine was orange or red, couldn't remember clearly.. or was it that I have both? I played non stop and was so worried that my Tamagotchi pet wouldn't eat well and stuff like that.

Hi oli....yes I do remember the toy! In fact, I was desperately trying to remember the name of the toy yesterday. It just kind of popped up in my mind but I couldn't seem to remember what it was called. The tip-of-the-tongue syndrome?
I never had that toy. It was funny how as a child my parents used to scare me that it was an evil toy, and that the devil gave it life so that you needed to keep feeding it or caring for it otherwise it would die. I guess that was their way of talking me out of it because at that time we could hardly afford anything. I wouldn't have stopped asking for it if they never spun that story.

There's a shop dedicated to Tamagotchi goods in Tokyo, but because here people loves to make merchandise of everything
However, it's not that specially popular. I remember I had one many years ago, and I got tired of it waking up every morning at 8 o'clock and demanding me to play, feed, etc. it

I wanted one so bad, but they were always sold out. So I got another brand. I ended up getting like three of them and I kept them all on the same keychain. When i would go to school, I used to make my mom take care of them for me! I did end up getting the Tamagotchi game for my game boy color though. That was pretty cool. I didn't like when they got sick though!

I used to have one. It was kind of addictive. I remember, at school everyone had one, and you would see people playing with them during class. Some teachers banned them.
My brother eventually broke mine- with a hammer. :(

Yes I remember the Tamagotchi. They were the most ridiculous thing ever created to occupy the juvinile mind. They were such a waste of time. kids would stop everything to feed, bath, change and who knows what else they needed doing. Thank goodness they disappeared as a ridiculous fad of history!!!

How funny, I actually remember these. All of my children had them and they got me started on it. We came across one of them the other day, it actually still works. I was amazed. LOL... Oh the memories! Thanks for starting this discussion!

Oh, I do remember the Tamagotchi. I never did buy one. I found them really interesting. I think I was still in grade school or high school when there was a craze for it. I guess it was just a fad now. I think its still popular in Japan. I didn't know they made a cartoon show about it. lol.

I never had one but a friend of mine had one when we were studying in Vienna. She starved it and had to resurrect it several times, she wasn't really fit to be a tamagotchi owner I think. She gave it a name though. I never really saw the point, but then I've nearly always have had a real pet.
