Okay, so I didn't feel like making dinner last night so I looked in my fridge to see what left overs I had.
I had chilli that I had made and that was about it. My kids were tired of leftover chilli so I decided to change it up. I made some macaroni and cheese and then threw in the leftover chilli. The kids loved it. I was actually amazed that they even ate it.
I figured that since I added the chilli, they wouldn't touch it. Boy, was I wrong.
Have you ever done something like that were you have made a new meal out of something old and wowed your family?

Its a great way to save on the grocery bill. The other thing that I am starting to do to keep down my costs, I am freezing the leftovers into individual meals. I write up a list and stick in on the front of the fridge so if the kids are hungry and want a nice meal, they know where to find it. Also, helps with the life of the meals. :)

Hi chulce
Good for you!! I love that when someone just tries something new and even better when it works!! I am a chef and once a week we have clean out the frig night as with the price of food today, throwing anything that is still good is out of the question in my mind. I love to take everything out, put it on the counter and start cooking..I have come up with some great things and a few of which I am going to put in my cookbook that I'm working on..(Dont know if it will get published, but its been great fun working on it). I do have the advangage of culinary school and learning to use herbs and how to pair foods so the education definately pays off every now and then. I work on a yacht and cook for private charters and often there is no plan so I have to do the same thing there..Its a great feeling of acomplishment when you try something that works but the real beauty is that you tried. Keep cooking and keep those kids happy!!! J

My husband and I were shaking our heads today as we were going through our fridge and all the stuff that we needed to get rid of we were hoping greatly that our children would help eat leftovers. I think I've learned my lesson and will be going back to my old ways of saving things. That being get creative right away with the left overs and also freezing a bunch of them for later use. That way there isn't this much waste. There are times I wonder what I can do to make my kids understand. But, I think I have hit a brick wall with them.
