How do you start a discussion at mylot?

Philippines

I read earlier about some mylotters copying other peoples discussions. Yesterday I tried to discuss something about coffee and tea. Wondering if the topic had already been posted, I ran a search and found a 4-year old post of the same with 3 responses. I know it would have been alright to post it again. But if I wasn't aware of the issues regarding plagiarism, I wouldn't have cared and not search before posting. It is also different from those who copy blatantly topics posted a minute ago. So, besides doing the search, how else can we avoid posting a discussion that has already been done, and when is it acceptable to post it again?

if you are going to start a similar one which already exists then it would be deleted for sure.you can only start a discussion about the same topic if and only if you have something to add whcih wasnt discussed in older one.And try to add unique tags while starting which would save it from deletion.great day.

I also didn't know that tags are connected with being deleted. Thank you this is informative.

Well thanks for the tip friend. I didn't know adding unique tags can do a lot of help like preventing the deletion of topics.

Majority of the topics here had some kind of similarities to other. The good thing is that as long as you made your own sentences and and copy it word for word, then its okay. For example the concern about the "2012 end of the world thing", there are lots of them here but many had never been deleted because its the main topic of the whole world right now. Many of my discussions here do have similar taughts to previous ones posted but never attempted to copy any of them. Better to write it down in my own words than sorry in the end.

Such is the nature of mylot that we can discuss world events here. Including its ending :). I guess I would have to agree to just use my own words when I want to post something of the "general" kind.

And the good thing is that sometimes our words were not the right ones but still many of myLotters can comprehend and knew instantly what we were discussing and never misses to respond to them.

I always take the topics of my own interest! I never make any search, to avoid unnecessary terms and use my own words as far as possible! Also, myLot guide-lines on posting is followed by me. Thanks and have a nice day!

Hello Mitraa, I would avoid unnecessary terms to but as you know there are really times when you try to post something generic someone else has done it before. Maybe that is what should be avoided, generic topics. I am learning now that most people who have responded to his post discuss thing from their own personal experience.

This discussion is a reminder for everyone to use the search bar here in mylot. The search bar has a purpose why it's their. Thank you for this wonderful discussion may it serve it's purpose well and enlighten new and old users about plagiarism and stuff.

Your responses likewise enlightens me on matters that seem to be contentious with the rest of the honest members here.

Hello, I've never actually cared much about plagiarism in myLot. Yeah, there may be a couple of posts about the same topic, but opinions that people shared then will certainly differ from those they will share now. Also everyday so many new persons are joining myLot. They might have missed the older version of the discussion. I don't even search to see whether the topic I'm interested in was previously discussed in myLot. I choose my topic on certain things and situations I've faced in my life, and I want to know about the perspective of other people about the same thing. Thanks for starting this discussion God bless you

After I made that search, my reasoning yesterday was the same as yours. The responses other people made then may be different from what other people will say now. While I was having second thoughts about posting re coffee and tea, someone posted something about the subject, so I just responded to it. Saved the day for me. Thank you for the response.

I start discussions without looking for them if they are already started or not. Because i do it all on my own , without any copying. I think one must be confident in his/her discussion and must be their own ideas about anything, it may overlap with someone's, but don't worry

Yes I did that too for maybe 6-7 times. Certainly I start a discussion all on my own. But since I read those concerns about posts being rehashed, I started wondering if my next post wouldn't be. I'd like to acknowledge of course, that there is the chance that somebody had done it before. thanks for responding.

according to the guidelines its not acceptable to start a discussion that has been posted before. It doesn't matter if the post is four minutes, or four years old. If more people like you would just search or take the time to search, then perhaps there wouldn't be coppy cat posts that could possibly be reported. Because if they become reported then it is you, the myloter who loses (especially if you live in a country where you get paid) you would then lose the earnings for that post.

So all earnings are lost when a post is reported as a copy cat? This should be enough to discourage everyone. Still some can be really thickheaded aren't they, or is it just because they can get away with it.
