how to connect my linux os to internet

hi,
Iam having both xp and ubuntu linux installed in my computer .
im able to access internet only in the xp but im not able to access it in the linux .
Pls tell me how to connect it

you need to connect via wired connection.. just connect with your modem/ network. and from linux network settings, add your network there.. and in case of ADSL modems you can save settings in your modem just plug in with linux and give ip of modem it will start browsing..

I never use Linux, but my friend told me unplugged the ethernet cable, rebooted, disabled the eth0, plugged the ethernet cable back in, then re-enabled eth0.
Do you have a DHCP server on the LAN ? or you can do one thing.. have a static IP for the eth0 (assuming eth0 is the network card hooked on to your LAN). Open '/etc/network/interfaces'..bla...bla...bla...

You can set it up easily if you are using a wired connection. If you are using wifi, you need to load windows xp first, use vmware and then run ubuntu in it. The ubuntu OS will get its connection from windows xp.
