Friends, I have been told time and again by my elders and others that I should do anything I take up to the best of my capacity. I agree with that, but is it possible to do so all the time?
There have been cases where I have started off with a lot of enthusiasm and then realised that it is really not worth the extra effort and not wanting to give up halfway through,I finish the job, but not to the best of my capacity. I feel that one should feel haapy and confident about the job at hand to do full justice to it..
Friends what do you all say? Can one put heart and soul into a job no matter what the circumstances are or...?

It is the other way around.I choose the jobs where I can put my heart and soul including the business.Getting paid and earning for a thing you love is something that everyone gets.God has been kind to me in that respect. And I strongly believe that one has to put his heart and soul into anything he does.

Yes Kala, we must be extremely fortunate or very understanding like the man in this story.
The story goes thus about a man who was praying God for a flower and a beautiful butterfly. And God obliged him with a cactus and a caterpillar. He accepted them without questioning thinking that God must be having some reason behind this. After a few days he was delighted to see a beautiful flower blooming from the thorny cactus and the ugly caterpillar turning into a colorful butterfly. God knows what He is doing. It is for us to have faith and patience .

Hi balasri, I think that is a lovely story, so much hidden meaning in it. Our life is what we make of them, we do the best we get the best in return. Some are fortunate that they get to do what they want, but life is different to different people and some end up having very little inspite of their best efforts, such is the irony of life...All the best and happy mylotting

I agree with you, Kiran. Sometimes our jobs are what make us happy and feel inspired to do more better each time. But sometimes the political issues at work, with jealous colleagues and stuff like that are what make working non-interesting. But I agree with you that whenever we are working in a particular job, we should do to the best of our ability to perform and be happy at the same time.

Hi zed, I think many such situations arise when you are working and it becomes very difficult for a person to actually do his/her best.I have had some such difficult situations which have left me feeling guilty for not having done my best. But that happens with everyone I guess. If we could just put aside our feelings and temperaments we could probably achieve more, but then we become almost like machines and robots LOL - Have a great weekend zed

Hi kiran!
Actually it is true that whenever we indulge in something we should put our soul and heart in it. However, practically it does not become possible to do every job with perfection due to so many reasons. For example the given job may not be of our taste or we may be indisposed or our concentration level may be low or something else. Same is the case with me if a job is of my liking I'll put my heart and soul in it.

Hi Kiran!
I agree with you that routine jobs are executed mechanically and if we are going to do something unusal or other than routine jobs, we become alert and are required to put our heart and soul in it.
Weekend was good, we spent it at home, it was very chilly and cold out there.

Hi deepak, yes thats exactly what I think .One hato have the aptitude as kala said in her post to do anything well ....I feel that on an average we are able to putour heart and soul into only 30% of the jobs we do.Most of the routine jobs are done mechanically so there is no question of putting anything into it LOL....Another weekend Deepak, have a great time with your family, that is if you are not travelling

Yes thats why we take lot of care while planning an outing or go for a holiday because we look forward to it . It is the interest and the liking for a job that makes us put our heart and soul into any job...Persoanlly I take interest even in other smaller routine jobs when I know that there is some excitement waiting for me like the prospect of a special dinner with friends or going for a holiday...

Every work that you do, you must give it your all, your very best because opportunity will present itself to those who are ready. If you lost interest, then think back on why you started this job in the first place and focus on that reason. As they say: "If the WHY is clear, the HOW will be easy?" Also, "Love what you do and you'll never work another day in your life." Finally, bear in mind, "Work your way up or rust your way out". Your future, your choice! Good luck!

Hi there kiran8!
I always do my best in everything that I do. I believe that I owe it to myself to always be the best. I may not always succeed in what I intend to accomplish but at least I don't have regrets on things that I know I did well. In doing my tasks in my job, I always make it a point that I put my heart and soul into it. It's the passion and commitment to my job that keeps me going...

i try my very best to do something i need to do or do something that i was asked to do. the frustrating part of this is sometimes you give your all but the people around you does not appreciate it. that sometimes you feel that you did not give your best when people around you did not give you an A for effort. i can say that someone can put his heart and soul on something specially if they are inspired at if they are appreciated

Hi se7, I see your point ...But in life we cannot live by other peoples standards, we have to set our own goals and standards and try to live upto them.Once you start doing that , others too start appreciating you a lot more.So I say ' do the best and damn the rest - all the best to you and happy mylotting

Dear Kiran
When I take up any job I try to put my heart, soul and mind all together in equal proportion and if I find that job is not worth doing I try to continue and try to eliminate the things that are not good if I can not do that I pray to GOD to give me power to finsh the task at hand and I finish the job with same mind heart and soul

I have to split this into two answers to sort of make sense of it for me. Every job I have worked in, as in a career, I have always given 120% working to the best of my capacity to get the job done, even when the job has been something less than wonderful such as stacking shelves in a supermarket.
But then taking the other viewpoint as in a job such as paintting a fence, cleaning the car etc etc then often I find myself starting with intentions of doing the job to the best of my ability but then drift off maybe giving it only 75% of my ability because of the mudane and unimportant nature of it.

For me, nothing can stop me from doing my best for my job. I don't like to be frustated and feel regret for anything so I always attemp myself to do my best. Although it's not really worthy but at least I put my hand to my job and do it with the best I can. It's somehow like catching a dream. Some dreams may not come true but at least I know that I tried then it cherish me. Dream is more difficult to reach than job and we won't really know if it's really worth the extra effort or not but we still do it. It's the same to the small thing in front of you. My mother taught me since I was young that if I keep looking to the sky I might fall down by a stone on the ground.

hi hubfee, I like what your mother said, so very true and wise. I think it is better for us to have our feet firmly on the ground and by being realistic one can never be disappointed . Once we realise the truth that there are bound to be some failures in not only our, but everybody's life it becomes much easier to accept and move on...All the best

When I do something I do it because I love it. There's no need to to something without heart and soul. This way the results will be bad and unsatisfying. And it's a waste of time. Even when we have no choice and should work on something we don't like, we must try to put our heart and souls in it somehow.

Hi stand, thanks a lot for your response Ideally we should be doing only what we like, but it is not always possible in life, and at times like that it may not be really possible to put your heart and soul into what you are doing - all the best and have a nice day

yes, i am fully satisfied with kiran,it is always said that always does the work with full heart and soul so that it will helpful for you and the person for whom you are doing your work.i will satisfactory for both the persons.but sometimes, there are circumstances when you are not fully indulged in the activity then it will cause some problems or errors in your work because whatever you are doing is in not of your interest.therefore one's individual response also matters a lot.

Hai its my pleasure to reply to your discussion, this topic is quiet similar to my mind which always raise on me. Since last 7 years I am doing my jobs which are totally against to my dreams and it must be mandatory for my daily food. But I learned and enjoying by doing extent I can enjoy, soon after I will be in another job with the same feeling.
But lessons what have I have learned really great to me and gives me an Idea to motivate some one when they really need to enter into any field. I can guide them how best they can do with that job and where could they get success and happiness.

I tried to always do my best in everything I do, but there are some factors that can really make you think otherwise. There was a time when I really put my heart and soul on the job, but the "powers that be" never acknowledged me or gave me credit. So from then on, I lost interest in putting my heart and soul in it. I eventually quit the job and looked for a new one.
