Another proud day for Obama supporters across the country. Bribery is what you guys are supporting and that's exactly what your getting. Union members are now EXEMPT from the 40% tax on employer paid health insurance plans in exchange for supporting the healthcare bill. That puts us, the taxpayers, another $60 billion in the hole for this legislation. Yay for you guys. Bribery is going to be the legacy of this administration and I have yet to hear one democrat object to it. So long as you get a bill, ANY bill, passed it doesn't matter. You don't even have to read it, you just need votes.

Remember that the 40% tax is only on "Cadillac Plans" for starters (which doesn't personally concern 90% of Americans). Secondly, from what I read, this is only temporary. I actually agree with you that it is unfair that the Cadillac Tax is imposed on some people five years earlier than others. It's a bit of an ugly compromise, but the Cadillac Tax was already an ugly compromise even before this.

I'm so glad the Republicans have NEVER crafted legislation that would satisfy their base like the NRA, big oil or the insurance industry! I must admit I haven't seen or heard the exact details of the compromise they've made on the tax but I'm pretty sure I heard it's not only union members who are exempt and I know the plan now is to raise the amount before the tax goes into effect and to not count vision and dental coverage. I also know they're reportedly working on how to make up for the difference in funding. Taskr, does it mean anything to you that many unionized workers have given up wage increases through the years in exchange for getting good health benefits? Annie

The "Bush/Republicans did it too" line Annie? Is that the best you can do? That is the weakest most tired excuse in the book. All you're telling me is that you approve of bribery and corruption 100% when it's your party doing it. Bush must be your favorite president. You clearly support everything he does so long as there's a D next to the name of the person doing it. "Taskr, does it mean anything to you" No, it means absolutely NOTHING to me what union workers have negotiated with their union because that's between union workers and their union. What makes you think non-union workers haven't made similar deals with their own employers to keep their health care? People take lower wages all the time to get good health insurance, but I guess that only matters to you if they support Obama's agenda. Does it bother you at all that Obama was completely against taxing insurance plans and reamed McCain over it during the election? Does it bother you that he PROMISED not to raise taxes on people making less than 250,000 a year and yet is more than happy to break that promise AGAIN with this bill, or are you just willing to support him no matter what because of that D next to his name? Do you remember when Obama said taxing your health insurance was "so radical, so out of touch with what you're facing, and so out of line with our basic values."? http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-10-04-obama-2008_N.htm I guess it's only radical if you do it to unions. Here are links with information about the bribe the democrats pulled. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/01/15/democrats-hammered-room-deal-unions-health-care/ http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/unions_get_pecial_treatment_in_health_AB053CwqPIJlIxXAm37DOM http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/01/tentative-deal-on-the-cadillac-health-insurance-plans-reached.html http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/14/health.care.negotiations/index.html

Two wrongs don't make a right. And just because one acts badly does not give the other the right to behave badly too. As for who all is exempt...it is union members, state and federal employees....that is it. The rest of us have to pay it. What about the rest of the average joe working american who did without pay raises or more pay at a job to get better healthcare benefits? the union members are not the only ones.

Taskr, I don't see anywhere in that quote that makes the blanket statement taxing health insurance is so radical and out of touch. He levels that accusation at McCain's plan (at least according to the article provided)--BIG difference there! I agree that this provision should've stayed as the Millionaire's Tax (as I think it is in one of the House versions) to prevent the possible taxation of people making under $250K. However, it is very unlikely that this does affect people making under $250K. I'm not sure if the following will make it into the final version but: In one of the versions I read, there was a tax on people with no health insurance. With no public option present in the bill, this just seemed horribly unfair to the poor who cannot afford either health care insurance OR the burden of a new tax. I seriously hope that's not in the final.

And now off to the campaign trail arm in arm with Obama! If Brown wins I doubt they will seat him... I mean they had to do a lot of "negotiating" to hold on to the votes for a health care bill the American people don't want.

The American people want a health care bill; they just don't want THIS health care bill. Don't get me wrong; there are some good things in it (and some bad things too). But you have plenty of people on the right saying it goes too far, and people on the left saying it doesn't go far enough.

Of course they are using bribery. The democrat party is a criminal organization and this administration is the most corrupt in the history of our country. The liberals should all be rounded up and shot for their crimes against humanity.

It makes me wonder if there's any of the spirit of the founding fathers left in our nation. Bribery and corruption are anathema to the ideals espoused by them and that they enshrined in the Constitution. It's disheartening and it's shameful. Party and agenda should never be primary in the minds and hearts of Americans.

Except this is the EXACT spirit of our founding fathers. It's like the 3/5th compromise in our Constitution. Or how people small states gets more say (per person) in who gets elected president because of how the electoral system works. Our founding fathers may not have had political parties, but they certainly had agendas!

"...and I have yet to hear one democrat object to it" This makes two of us. I can't really decide what it is. Are they pretending it's not happening? Are they content to use the Bush excuse and bash the other side to justify it? Or is it something much more troublesome? Is there a spot in a supporter's brain that roots for things outright criminal so long as it gets them closer to their false goal of control? I fully expect to hear a ton of "but what about YOU guys" rhetoric. That's a given. But if I were to see one Obamabot step up to the plate and admit this crap is criminal and shady and shouldn't be happening, I would literally be shocked beyond words.

Well prepare to be shocked, I know I was... I meet a man a couple weeks ago who voted for Obama who told me he thought hevwould bring change but he has brought nothing but more debt and disappointment... he also said next election he would not be voting the incumbent in for anything! Talk about a shocked feeling for me!

Well as you can see below the letter D next to Obama's name makes his actions perfectly justifiable for many of his minions. He can change his stance on anything and that's just fine. Firestorm: it is good to see some people are opening their eyes. I just hope enough people realize how bad things are with the current politicians we have. We definitely want to get rid of the incumbents and get term limits in place to reduce the corruption.

You knew it was going to happen, didn't you? They'll get what they want, one way or another. It's interesting to note that bribery seems to be OK if you're a Democrat, but if you're anything else, watch out. I think they've done everything they can to keep the bill from being read. That should make us not only nervous, but downright angry.

Got it about right. And it is bribery. Why should they be exempt? It is sooo easy to support a bill when the tax or money to pay for it won't be coming out of your pocket. It is always easier to spend someone else's money. It is sickening. Corruption in our government is running rampt. They don't even bother to try and hide it anymore. And the public stands for it. Why? We should be DEMANDING better of all of them.

We have exactly the same problem here. Like i always say, the sircus is in town, you do not pay, you bribe. We have a bunch of bribe sick toadies in our government and the normal citizens, just keep on paying. Nice, hey. When it is too late, they will eventually try to put everything back together, but that will be too late. Money is more important and where better to get it, is by you, of course. Good luck. You are going to need it.
