The US is allowing people from Haiti who are visiting the US to extend their Visa
long enough for Haiti to get back on it's feet. We seem to have many people here and this seems like a smart move on the part of the US. What is not needed there
are more people returning who have no homes or jobs. Of course those who wish to return will be able to do so. What do you think of this?

I do not see how conscience and human decency could allow us to do differently! We have our own things to work on but they most certainly have bigger problems now.

I think this sounds like a compassionate choice. It will make some people mad,and they will complain, but I think it is very appropriate. I have nothing but compassion in my heart for the people displaced by the earthquake. I only hope if roles are ever reversed that the world will be wanting to help us out.

On humanitarian grounds your government is allowing these people to stay in your country. This will eventually become an internal problems for the locals. The problems back home is so uncertain, with no homes and no jobs, they found the golden opportunity to find refuge in your land.

They may want to stay, but they won't be a burden. People with enough money to travel usually are among the educated of society. If they do stay, they will find good jobs and contribute to society wherever they live.

Hi pat~ I think that letting the people from Haiti stay here
makes more sense then sending them home! If they go home then
there are just more people who have to be cared for there and
right now there are just too many people to take care of already!
What would the point be to send people back when they might
not even have homes to go to? There is enough people to tend
to there already! It makes little sense to add to it! If people
from Haiti are here they are safe and it is best they stay that
way!

Whatever the Haitians want they should be allowed after all they have gone thru. At this time there is really nothing for the Haitian people to go back home for unless they want to help their relatives to get out. There are people starving in the streets of Haiti with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Its a horrible situation for all and my prays go out to each and everyone of them.

hi pat,
i find this very generous offer untimely. of course these people will want to go home to see their families left there in Haiti.
if they offer to Haiti, then they should offer to other parts too who got the same fate.
but of course they wont.

I think it's one of the few common sense things our gov't has done! What's wrong with them?! I guess they've finally gotten some brains. It's a good move and a compassionate one, I'm glad that our visitors won't have to go home right away into a horrible situation.

I come from a different country but I feel that under these grave circumstances what else can be done? We have to show compassion to these people and these are not ordinary circumstances. I don’t know how long it will take before these people can return home. I guess the kindest thing to do is extend them special visas so they can stay until they are able to go back.

I think this is thoughtful, but more can be done. This situation will not clear up quickly. I wish more people would donate or try to help out. Tradegy is not something anyone wants happening to them. I am glad they are extending the visa, but what happens when they run out of money or the necessatities while they are here in the US...
