Do you have problems with kids taking medicines?

Well, it's been a while since I last posted a discussion about our son's health. And since the results of the laboratory procedures reveal that our son has sinusitis, which is a bit thick, as the doctor said, his apnea is not clear this time, as she said, we still have to attend to sinusitis, for say, six months. Until then, if the situation is still the same, we have to go for the sleep test.
So far, our little angel is doing fine, although the snoring is still there, which is the one thing that we really have to get rid of.
But anyway, medication is on going, and so as the steam inhalation regularly.
And good thing, we have no problem with him in taking the meds. So how about you? Do you have problems with kids when they got sick? And how do you handle this thing?

Hi neil. I hope his problem is cured with the medicine! My husband recently got tested for sleep apnea and is now using a CPAP machine. One problem, though, I just noticed him having a sleep apnea episode while wearing the CPAP mask! He has an appointment with the doctor on February 2nd so he'll be able to talk about it. It may turn out that he needs surgery. I just hope he'll get it.
I hope Zyruz won't need surgery but you did say that his X-rays all showed normal bone structure so that's good. My husband has some abnormalities which are obvious so there's a good chance he'll need surgery.
Please keep me updated!
My oldest son was like a bear when I tried to give him medicine. He wanted no part of it! I had to think up some devious ways to get his medicine in him. I'd sometimes put it in different foods, like applesauce, or in juice or milk, if it was okay to drink milk with the medication. Chocolate milk worked great. He almost never tasted the medicine in it. With the applesauce, I'd use it when he had a pill or capsule to take. I'd smash the pill until it was just dust, then mix it in with the applesauce on the top so he'd eat that first, instead of mixing it in all the applesauce. It usually worked... usually. LOL

i remember when i was young, that my mother will also smash medicines in tablet form, or will take the powder in a capsule, then mix it them with water or juice. i was kinda problem when i was young, when it comes to taking my medicine. but good thing, our little angel did not inherited that from his dad, lol.
the doctor said that she really don't want to come to the point that we need CPAP or operation. i am so glad that she is really trying to do her best to treat the problem that our little angle has.
i will keep you updated.
take care.

With my son it was always(and a10 years old still is) hard to get him to take his medicine because he did not like the taste of it. He would spit it out and waste it a lot of times when he was younger.
My daughter on the other hand I have never had a problem getting her to take medicine. In fact she sometimes reminds me when it is time for her to take another dose.
I really hope your son does not have sleep apnea. I know several people who have it and they are always tired.

ours is only 2 years old. but we really are very happy that he takes his medicine easily. there are times that he doesn't want to take his meds, especially if he is playing. but when i said, i will do it with force, he will say, "no, no, no, i'll take it". so as the image shows, he drink it with himself.

Hi Neildc! Nice to hear that your son is doing fine. I'm glad you have no problems with him in taking his medication. Well I have no problem with my little ones if the medicine tastes fruity or sweet but if the medicine tastes like mud like one generic paracetamol that they tasted, they would really give me problem. At any rate there are other choices so I now makes sure the medicine taste good otherwise, I'd ask the doctor to give me better alternative.

I have two children and our little boy will run and hide when it's time to take any medicine. He has always been like that. He says it tastes aweful, some of them do, so I do agree. My little girl, who's 2 absolutely loves taking medicine, even asks for it. Though she don't get it when she asks. I enjoy medicine time for her because its so easy.

this boy is just like your little girl who sometimes asks for his medicine when he knows it's time to take it. while my other son who is elder than him is the one who is a little problematic when it comes to taking medicine...

Hi neildc, glad to hear he's getting some treatment, hope it works out well.
My eleven year old is one of those rare children who when he is sick just climbs into bed and sleeps. The only medicine he's ever needed is a spoonful of syrup which he takes if I tell him he has to. Innoculations are something else though, if he sees that needle coming he's screaming in advance, and was almost rude when the doctor tried to take his blood for the football TB test.

what our son is afraid of is injection. when we were in the hospital for blood testing, he cried when he saw nurses extracting blood from patients. it's not even his turn. maybe because he still remembers his experience when he was confined for the first, when he was a year old and 4 months. injection or blood extraction is one thing that we say we'll do to him to scare him, and do things he should do but doesn't want to. lol

the same with your child, i don't have a problem giving my grandson his medicines when he has a fever...because he is used to taking his vitamins everyday since he was a baby.
