So, how often do you do that, Saying grace before you start your meal? Do you do that every single meal, lunch and dinner? Or in a special occasion, or a gathering with friends and family members? I am not a religious person, but a couple of friends of mine are. So, when we go out for dinner sometime, we have to silent and hold hands, someone have to say grace. Not me though, because I never have a good words. I felt like that I just converted.

My wife, five children and I pray as a family for blessing of our food before every meal or snack. Leading the prayer is by rotation so that all of us will be able to lead the prayer. Sometimes, when I forget to say that we pray for the blessing of the food, my youngest child would remind me. Praying as a family really makes a family closer to each other and by always doing this more blessings come to the family.

This is what I am working towards here, though I do give thanks before every meal. Generally when I am in public, I say silent prayers to myself though.

Prayers to God, but just in my head, is what I was intending to say, and it just did not read right to me.

My kids and I say grace before every meal, even in public places. It is not done to be showy but instead at that particular time we are giving thanks for the food that has been prepared the hands that prepared and the fact that God has allowed us to see another day and enjoy many different things. I think that it is wonderful that my 5 year old pray in the morning when she wakes up and usually when I hear her she is saying thank you for allowing her to wake up and please be with those people who have relatives and friends sho did not wake up. Grace before eating just comes naturally to my family. My kids lately have been praying for the people in Haiti and Chile.

Hi Kingparker. No, I do not "say grace" before meals, but I do give thanks to God for His provision, just as I give thanks to Him many times every day for all He does for me. I have known, loved and served my heavenly Father God, through the Lord Jesus Christ, for 51 of my 73 years and in that time He has been my constant Companion and my Everything. When eating in public I give thanks to God, but not in a showy way - just a simple, silent thank you to my Father before I eat of His providence.

I never say Grace before I eat, and I wonder at those who, (sitting in a public place) fold their hands, bow their head, shut their eyes, and murmur something unintelligible. Are they doing this for God, or is it just to impress those people who can't help seeing their show of piety? I am not religious, but I am spiritual, and I believe I am just as thankful, (or more-so) than my pious neighbors. The difference I believe is, I am continuously thankful! This continuity of thankfulness eliminates the need to put on a show in public places.
