Most people love music but there are some people that take it to a different level. They actually research and learn all about the artist behind the songs. I am not so much the kind of person that does this. I usually just enjoy their music but my b/f is just the oppisite. He loves to learn all about the artists and often loves to read and watch biographies about them and their band. What kind of music lover are you? Do you just like the songs or do you like to learn about the people that sing and play them too?

Yes I do research the artists that I love. That is because life is one of the major inspiration for music and knowing what inspired them to write such songs is sometimes very important to know. They say experience teaches all and only few people take the experience they get and are very successful in putting them out in form of art like music. I always read up about the artist on wiki to know atleast something about them.

Your right..there are only a few people that are able to share their experiences with the world. It does make you wonder how, when, and where it all come about. It's also neat to find out what luck chanced upon them to take them to that place where they could share. There are a lot of very talented artists that never "make it". Thanks for responding.

First of all I would like to say that this is quite a good discussion! :) Anyways, as for myself, it really depends. My favourite artists I know some things about the band itself like where they are from and sometimes about the band members themselves as well. And when I get into a new band or a band I just found out about and really enjoy then I usually research into them as well.

Ah Pink Floyd is good I like them :) Well I am somewhat musically inclined.. I play the drums, a bit of bass guitar, and a bit of the acoustic guitar as well. I wouldnt say Im too good at acoustic or electric guitar, but I am not too bad with bass and pretty good at drums Ive been told. Music is probably my biggest passion.. I think it would be so hard to live without music. How about you, are you musically inclined and/or really into music as well?

I am into music but unfortunatly I am not musically inclined..lol..I have always wanted to be but never really got the chance to play any insturments. My b/f can play anything with strings though. It amazes me how we can go into a music store and him just pick different stuff up and start playing it. I wish I were like that..lol.

Thank you very much..There are a lot of people that really like to find out everything they can about their favorite music artists. I was watching that biography the other night with my b/f about Pink Floyd and thought to myself...how many people are like me and how many people are like him..lol..Are you musically inclined or are you a listener?

I am fans of a few of my favourite artists on Facebook. It allows me to find out more about them and get in there before other people may find out about concerts etc. I find the Internet to be an incredible tool for finding out about your favourite artists.

Very well explained. We want to know all about the things that influence our lives and if music is a huge part of your life..you want to find out all you can about the people presenting it. I love music but you are the kind of music lover that has taken it to the next level. It's great. My b/f is very educated as well with music and bands. Thanks for the response.

I love all different kinds of music and just enjoy listening to it. Most of the time I don't even KNOW who is singing and sometimes when I do know, I don't even know who they are. It's all about what the music sounds like to me.

That's exactly the way I was before the b/f. I have really had a crash course in the music scene. He''ll ask me sometimes when a song comes on.."who is that?"..LOL..then when I say I don't know..he acts like he's shocked and can't believe I don't know who they are..lol..I have learned alot but I'll never know as much as him because he is alot more interested in knowing the details than me. Thanks for responding...oh..it's about time for a trip to Florida isn't it?

Hiya Jenin.. hope you are doing fine. Sometimes I do that. I like to research what type of music I'm listening to, the history of the singer or the band and also sometimes try to read stuffs on them. And mostly, I'll do it whenever I am very interested in a particular song I heard.

Hi my friend..I hope you have a nice weekend too. I thought that you might do a little research on the artists and bands. It seems that most musicians do this. I am curious if your wife has an in depth knowledge as well. She is a musician too. Thanks for the resposne.

Well, I used to like to read all about my favorite bands, but I think that was just a pre-teen/ teen thing. I'd read all about them, get as many pictures of them as I could, read fanfiction, etc. Now I may read up a little bit, but I don't obsess myself with it. If there's a particular song I like, I may try to find out who wrote it, and if it was the artist, what the artist wanted to convey, or if the Lyrics were true to what the artist experienced... but I don't dwell on it, I just "curiously" look.

Yea, I think it's most likely interest to see how the band / individual artists started out, maybe he's trying to find the key to fame...

I went through the teen thing too. My b/f reads like biographies and behind the scene like books. Not a teen type thing but he can tell you most anything about most any artist that is within his genres. I guess being a musician kind of gives him a greater interest. Thanks for responding.

For the most part I just like the songs. If something is said that perks my interest I may do some research. I usually hear all I want to on the tv about any certain personality. I love rock and roll and enjoy the shows on about Kiss and such.

Hi celticeagle! I don't much research them either. My b/f was watching a show last night about Pink Floyd. Some of it was very interesting but it wasn't anything I would have actually searched for myself. He loves learning stuff about the people in the bands and can tell me if they had a pimple on their hiney during certain concerts..LOL..I hope he doesn't read that..hehe

Hey Jen! Yup! I love to know about the artists too and so does
my boyfriend! He loves to watch the videos and watch BET and
we love to buy all the latest CD's! He bought me the new
Rhianna CD for Christmas because I begged him too! He bought
the new R Kelly CD for himself! I like the old time Rock CD's
too! I like a variety of music! We both love R&B, and he likes
some Jazz! So we always have some kind of music playing in the
house! I am mylotting and he is changing the bed and listening
to something in the other room and will be ironing his clothes
for work while I am frying pork chops for dinner! I can hear
his music playing and it is great!

Sounds like a great atmosphere for a music lover. My b/f gets up on the weekende mornings and turns on music right away. We lay around or even clean up the house..just whatever. A little research is the best way to get a heads up on all the new stuff coming out. Thanks for the response,

I would say I do abit of both. If I find a new artist that I really like I will research to see what other songs, albums etc they have out. And I do find it very interesting to read about how they broke into the business. But that's pretty much where I leave it.
I don't follow them as far as what they are up to on a regular basis. Just check on what new songs or albums they have coming out from time to time. I don't like huge crowds so I'm not much of a concert goer but occasionally will watch one on tv or the net.

The research that my b/f does are mostly on older bands. He has a few newer ones that he keeps up with but they are not on the top ten list. It is interesting to see how they come to be stars. Some of them also have some really good unknown stuff as well that you can run across while checking them out. Thanks for responding.

I like to know about the artists because If I like their music I want them to do well in their career and Like to know about their background as it gives them a more human side. They have the same problems as many normal people do. It also helps with when they have a new album out or if someone is talking about the artist.

It depends. Most of the time I do not think too much about the artist. Actually there are dozens of songs that I LOVE, but can't name the artist who sings the song.
It was really funny, one day my hubby and I were playing a "Name That Tune" game. He goes to this website that lists the top 100 songs from each year, and he'll go through and play them and I have to name the song and artist. Well he played this one song I always heard on the radio and I said "Oooh! I love that song, but I don't know the artist" it was Maroon 5. Awhile later he plays another one and I said the same thing... again it was Maroon 5. I discovered that day that I was a fan of Maroon 5 and I just didn't know it. So then a few hours later I'm listening to the radio, and the station was doing a contest to win Maroon 5 concert tickets. I called up and actually won! It was actually hilarious because if we hadn't played that game, I wouldn't have bothered trying to get the tickets.
Every once in awhile a particular artist will strike a chord with me and I'll want to know more about them, like after the Maroon 5 concert I did research them because I wanted to know more.
But again, most of the time I do not go out of my way to learn something about an artist just because I like their music.

I am exactly the same way when it comes to songs and artisits. I recognize some of the older songs and artists but that's because I have heard their music alot. I usually have no clue who plays what. I just know I like the song. Thanks for responding.

Hi JenInTN,
I used to research bands when I was younger but now not so much. I have watched documentaries and such when on the TV about musicians or bands that I like. I have a few friends that are musicians and they still read up on all the stuff about bands but I guess they do it because it is part of the job. I still occasionally do a search for a band online but that is mainly just to listen or watch a music video.

Hi zone! I am thinking that most musicians do this. Alot more than those of us that just enjoy the music. I guess in a lot of ways a musician relates to their stories and lives just as much as they do the music. For me..I relate to the music and just enjoy that. Thanks for the input.

I am in the middle on this one. I like a wide verity of music some I just listen to and some I find out more about who is playing it. Being some what of a musician my self sax payer to be exact, I started playing in the 4th grade and at 13 I was making money doing it. So I can understand where some of the music is coming from and when something strikes me I will find out more about the artist behind the music.

I usually just stick with hearing the music but I have had a crash course in musicology..lol..Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot.
