Yesterday, we go to a swimming pool together with my classmate. They swim and enjoy the pool. We plan to go there because we want to have a good bonding with eact other. Well, me? I just standing on the pool and feel the coldnest of water. I do not know how to swim that's why I'm scared to go in deep level. Then my friend told me, if I want to learn to swim and he said that when I learn it? I will no longer forget how to do it. What do you think about it? Is it true?
By the way, if it's true it means that it is somehow related when learning how to ride in a bike. That when you learn it you will never forget it. Even you do not bike for a long time ago.

Yes. It is true. I learnt it in only 5 lessons but I still cannot go to the deep as I am scared of water. I know the frog style which is very easy and I only venture into the shallows where children swim.

I do think if ever theres a wild kind of fish who lived in the deep. Well even I became the geatest swimmer in the world, I will be scared to face a wild fish under the deep blue sea!

There are no sharks in the swimmig pool. That you must remember !You need to know how to breathe in water and this you must do holding on to the bar at the start of the pool, wear a float and learn it there. Your life guard there will supervise you or get hold of a friend.

Yes, skills such as swimming and cycling, when once mastered, will stay with you for life. The skills get embedded somewhere deep into your subconscious. They don't get lost even if you don't swim or cycle for long periods of time.

I see so it's embedded in my soul, which no matter what happen it will still remain! by the way, What if the situation is i have a amnesia??? Will I still be able to know how to swim and ride a bike? what do you think about it???
By the way! I guess if I'm not mistaken because cycling and swimming is the same and you can't forget it. May be it is like your first love.. Which is very hard to forget!

Good question. Motor skills such as swimming, cycling, or walking are controlled by certain part of our brains. If that part of the brain is damaged, we could well lose the ability to perform those motor skills that we were so capable of previously. I am sure you have read about accounts where some people, after suffering from a serious head concussion, have to re-learn how to walk again. Hope that answers your question.

Well, thank you for answering my question! By the way, I remember the movie of 50 first date, where the girl do have a amnesia everyday and all day happening to hear was only repeating and repeating. it's really sad to know but we must learn it again.

It is very true.At least in my case.I have learned swimming when I was a kid and I used to swim like a fish in our village tanks. And the migration to the city as I grew up has limited my swimming sprees to an occasional swimming pools in the star hotels with my daughter. But every time I plunge in to the water I find myself swimming like the small boy I was in that village.

it's good to remember those kind of times when we are in the age of a little boy. You said you swim like a fish. If i'm not mistake my friend told me that in some part by following what can fish do in water, you can also learn how to swim like it. By the way, when he told me to float in water, I must try to copy how a jelly fish float. But while trying it! he laugh at me because I looks like jellyfish! and we laugh and laugh . Until I get tired, but still in some part I think? I'm getting the point on how to float!

yes, it's true. one time, i did not swim for more than ten years. then we went to a pool with my sister and i swam, at first i almost forgot and sank. but after 1 or 2 tries, i remebered. so i can say that it is just the same as biking, you will never forget it.

10 years of not taking a swim? that was really too aged and long of time. did you find it easy to swim even that years was too long? I see that there are so many responder that says it's like learning how to ride on a bike. I know how to ride I bike and I really find hard also to learn it. I think I must really give a good effort and bravery to learn it.
By the way, sorry for the typographical error that I have type in the title it's SWIM not SWIN. Thank you!

very true, we never forget that we note the balance of the brain that all. Early days we were often injured during learning, but when we can master it we will not be hurt again. To learn to swim, it depends on our ability to have a fast and there is also a slow. For someone like me, learned to swim very hard to do but to ride two-wheeled bike I could do it.

I think we are the same May2k8! Me too I easily learned how to ride in a bike then know I already know how to drive a motorcycle. Which I there would be no longer for me to take for the pedals and give much effort. With motorcycle, I just twist the handle to accelerate!

Yes, that is true. You never forget how to swim once you have learned and have got trained. But, as you get older, the only thing would be that you lose the speed and the control of your limbs and body. And, indeed, yes ! It is like riding a bike. Once you have learned it, you never forget how to do it. That's all in the body !

Hi there online_jon!
I never heard of anyone who forgot to swim just because he or she has not done so in a long time. Maybe it would feel odd to do something one has not done in a while. But to forget it? I do not know if that is possible but I have not experienced that myself.

It's very true! It's instinctive! I even just learned swimming myself and never had to do any formal study to swim. Do you know that 7-month old babies can actually swim? Everybody has the instinct to swim as soon as we develop our subconscious and conscious, you should be able to learn to swim and NEVER FORGET.

Hi Online_Jon,
I don't think you will ever forget how to do it. It is an acquired skill and once you know how to do it, it will become part of you. Maybe, if you do not practice a skill, it will surely decrease your proficiency but not the knowledge.
I think it is a good idea to know how to swim. I learned how to swim by myself during long school vacations when I was younger. Most of the children in the province had fun and had long hours in the sea. That was where almost all of the children learned how to swim. I had also let my own children attend swimming lessons; at least, they know the basics of swimming.

Hello Moneymakingtoday! your great and i see your spirit where you try to learn it all by your self! how I wish we are the same! to learn swimming all by myself. By the way, If we have a pool here near our house. I think I can be easily learn it very well. I remember? when we are in the province we do have a little river there and i see that my cousin are taking a bath there and they swim happily! I'm just watching! but i believed someday I can able to swim there and share happiness with them while taking a swim!
Nice Image of the Sea you add!

Hi online_jon, what you said might be true, you see, i've learned how to swim at a very tender age, when we resided by a lakeside during our childhood days. And after so many years 27 to be precise, our friends one day decided to go for a picnic by a river side, and when someone suggested that we go for a swim before our meal everybody jumped into the water, i was a bit apprehensive about going into the water, but after sometime, after much cajolling by my friends i also joined them and to my surprise that i still know how to swim easily. It was a nice experience. Thank you.

To be honest now I really find it very hard to learn it! Know I try to research some techniques on how to learn it easily!

Some people like to say that is impossible for them to swim. I think it is possible for almost every person to swim ( except the handicapped ).. so yes I believe somebody can never forget how to swim.

I see in television that even though the person do have handicapped! They can still learn to swim! wow! i'm too inspired with your thoughts! thank you! If I'm not mistaken there are athlete who won in a particular competition even though they do have handicapped! I guess the reason why they can able to win it is there motivation and dedication to learn it.

Yes its true once you learn how to swim you will never forget it.And if you want to learn how to swim then floating is the first thing thats also correct.Well for your fears that you have to overcome by spending more time in water.First of all in shallow water try holding your breath for as long as possible more you do this practice more you will be able to hold and more breath you can hold in water then slowly your fear will go off.you can even open your eyes in water of course it is not advised in public swimming pools as they have a lot of chlorine in their water to purify it and it can harm you eyes but i open my eye it itches a little but its ok.If you learn how to swim underwater then your fear will go away.try it.it will surely help.

Exactly. Swimming becomes like a natural process of the body. It's just a series of motion and once the body learns how to adapt itself to water, it will not forget. Unless of course you stop and become very still in the water.
It's just like riding a bike. Once you have it in you. Once the body learns to balance on the bike, you will never forget it because the body gets accustomed to it.

They said that also but I don't know if it's really true because I don't know how to swim and ride a bike.lol!when I was still a kid growing up in the province, while everybody in the neighborhood practiced how to play volleyball, badminton, swimming and what else, I was scared of everything including water and dangerous sports, my parents never allowed me to do such thing also, so I just stay home and watched other kids enjoyed their existence. Now I am afraid to try even more. (sigh!)

Yes it is really true! Learning something cannot be forgotten.
I can say it because I am not also a good swimmer like you.
But in other case like how to drive a bike its the same.
Once you will know it will not be erased in your thought and minds.
It will be recalled once you are in the actual situation.
So try to to learn it be a good swimmer someday. Me also wanted still
of that event to learn so that it can help in some instances.

yeh thats true :) I learnt to swim when i was pretty young and i used to go swimming quite a lot down at the swimming baths, or on holiday or in the sea or wherever. I haven't been swimming now for about 2 years i'd guess but if i did go swimming i would have no problem just jumping straight in the deep end :D

swimming is easy. Nothing to hard. If you just want to learn the basic and be done with it then it should be no problem. Going towards the deeper end is so much fun. Swimming is like riding a bicycle, you can't really forget it.
