Because it's there!

Have you ever heard the mountaineer's and rock-climber's expression, 'because it's there!'?
This discussion is not just about rock-climbing.
Have you ever gone to a park, and see a bench, and just sat down, because it's there? Or to a pool, and saw a diving platform, and dove, because it's there? Or ate a cake in a party, because it's there? Or max out your credit limit, because it's there? Get the gist?
Wonder what other situations you can come up with, or things you've done, where the only logical explanation you did it was because it's there.

Hmm, I wonder if the Mountaineer's and rock climber's expression "because it's there" is the longer version of the expression "because" or "just because" Let me see, what have I done recently just "because it's there?" hmm... I think a lot of people can say they eat "because it's there"... I mean, boredom and food don't always mix. In any case, I'd have to say the last "because it's there" thing I've done is watch television. If I'm bored, I either watch t.v., play video games, use the computer, read or eat (not particularly in that order)... "because it's there".

Yes Of course! *hit hand against head* coz, cos, or cuz... I can't say I haven't used the shortened form as well, but I know it can be annoying to hear just "cuz".

Hey bounce! I'm sure I can think of many times that I have
done something "because it was there"! And what a lame excuse
that is! Especially if it was something that was a bad choice!
For instance, using my credit card to buy something I shouldn't
have bought! And definitely eating something fattening that I
knew I shouldn't eat, but did anyway because it was there! I'm
sure everyone has "those moments", but how many of us will admit
them? Nice going on a great discussion topic! Can't wait to
see the responses!

Ugh - I'm always guilty of using the charge card even when I have cash... because its there. Now I only leave one charge card in my wallet at a time... and all my cards only haev like, a $250 limit for that reason... but I just take the one that's closest to the limit, so even if I do feel inclined to use it, I can't use much. lol

Hi Opal26. Believe it or not, I was actually eating something(fattening) that I shouldn't when I was reading your response. Now I have to stop.
Darn! I thought I would escape this discussion without admitting to anything. You just made me. I guess, I'm having one of those moments.

Guilty as charged! last Wednesday I went to yet another Barnes and Noble because it was there! I had ben to 2 others this month but I wanted to compare."Every once in a while you have to say what the f@ck?"Ferris Bueller? I think that's whom I heard say this first. Anyway, if I get that feeling , i go for it.

Hi Bounce,
If i was not a mountian lover or rock-clomber, i might not understand "BECAUSE IT'S THERE" meaning. But i am telling you, i do understand what you mean. There is more famous setence" You love me, or don't, i will be there. You come to see me, or don't, i will be there, you miss me ,or don't, i will be there". Isn't the same meaning matching yours? I love your discussions! Thanks for reading and responding my discussions.

That is what I told my husband when he asked me why I kept tearing up the yard to put in more flower beds..Because it is there. He must understand that logic, he doesn't ask me anymore, he just shakes his head and tries not to fall in the holes.

Last week, my wife and I was walking at the mall and a lady with a low necklined shirt, big chest, and eye popping cleavage passed by us. I couldn't resist not staring. My wife asked why the hell I would stare at that when I know that she's with me. My obvious answer should have been "because it's there!", but instead I just said that I thought the lady looked familiar that's why I was staring.

Cool discussion... i think i am def. they type of "because it there" person. I do a lot of stuff because its there. try this because its there. Stop at this park because its there. Try new food because its there. Some of the best places i've been to is because i was driving and i stopped because they were there!
