According to my webster's dictionary, piracy means the act or crime of a pirate and it is also infringement of copyright.
I would suggest to you, fedoralinux that when you encounter an unfamiliar words you may use your dictionary.Using dictionary doesnt cost you and the main purpose of a dictionary is to help you, it doesnt give you only the list of words indicating their spelling, on how you would pronounce it, where does the word originate, meanings, its usage, synonyms and antonyms, but also it gives other information on a variety of subjects.

Piracy can mean several things. One, it can be the art of robbing ships on the sea, mostly done by Somalians and back in the past by almost everyone in the high seas. Two, warez, illegal downloading is sometimes referred to as piracy. So called internet pirates don't agree with the second point though, they only believe that point one should be referred to as piracy.
Others say that piracy as meant in point two is theft, but the actual copy isn't stolen from the owner, it's just being copied. There is a good explanation chart somewhere available on the web but I can't seem to find it, bummer.
